Good location close to an event we were attending Television service limited and very poor reception. Shower was a bit low and cramped.
Lady at reception was very kind give us information about where to go. They also keep our luggage after chekout for a few hours. You fill yourself safe there.
The hospitality of the staff the entrance of the hotel. you need to walk a distance to enter the hotel on the main street
The free use of PC and Internet access in the Swiss Office was great
This was a fantastic place to stay. I would recommend it highly. Convienently located near the train station and cruise boat landings.
The location is great. It's near to the train station and to the dam. I needed to laundry a pants and, despite of the price (expensive), it was very good. There was a nespresso machine in the room. There wasn't a breakfast. The room is small, but it was ok for two people.
Atmosphere No curtain in the shower
Nice location The room was reported as superior with queen size bed, though in fact the room was 6 sq.m. with a tiny bed.
Location was fantastic, very close to main shopping areas. Also, lots of pubs and restaurants nereby and within walking distance of everything.
friendly staff nothing
Hotel staff was more then nice and helpful For a "Junior suit" (as booked and paid), the room was too small
The excellent staff and our gorgeous apartment to which we were upgraded Would not include breakfast again; though lovely and convenient it was very pricey given the area. Otherwise a perfect stay!
The service was great, if I can afford to, Ill stay there again.
Absolutely first class service. Could not do enough for you. Extremely comfortable bed! -
Cleanliness, wonderful architecture and interior design, polite and proficient and friendly staff Nothing. It was perfect
Hotel helps for every question asked and answers all in the perfect way. No dislikes.
disturbance during stay in room
I hated to leave. Staff and facilities were outstanding. Room was beautiful and luxurious.
While walking in the streets on a cold, windy, snowy, rainy day, the thought of going back to the hotel was pure happyness, as the hotel is so warm and cozy, It starts at the reception, continues in the corridors. Even the pool is warmer than all the pools in other hotels, I used it in the morning before breakfast and before going to bed at night. The extensive opening hours of the pool are a big advantage. The breakfast is the best I travel a lot, stay in nice hotels, none of them compares to this one...best juices, best fresh fruit, best bacon and eggs, best waffles. I loved the hotel tour, especially the wedding chapel and the other room with all the wood sculptures. I also liked the library with the fireplace. Everybody was extremely f I would have preferred a smaller and softer pillow
Beautiful and comfortable hotel , Great helpful staff everything was great
Great location, helpfull staff, nice interior, cleanliness, convinient bed, complimentary water and sweets every everning, channel and garden view, etc. - everything! To escape any delay connected with checking out the next morning, I was proposed to settle the formalities in the last everning.
The staff was very accomodating. The rooms were clean, and even though our room was on the busy street, the windows were sufficient to keep out most of the traffic noise.
This hotel was in a great location and had very friendly staff. The room set up was a little strange. The bathroom was all glass and lacked privacy. The bed was also placed strangely with the foot of the bed against the wall. This was a very clean hotel, and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in.
The security use of key cards for all access including lifts.Felt safe.
it was close to everything in central amsterdam which is a bonus less walking breakfast could of been of a wider range to suite more traveling people
Lovely hotel, perfect location. The showers in room are glass, with limited frosting. So if you are with your couple then great, or close friends, but if you are sharing with someone you are not so comfortable with these rooms maybe a little "revealing" and slightly uncomfortable. Personally I didnt mind,
staff cleanliness, old bathroom, dirty old carpets all over the hotel
I liked the newly renovated Star Rooms. I also liked the location of the hotel. There were many aspects I didn't like: - in room 601 (I stayed there between October 5-October 10, the heating was not working. I asked the reception staff to fix it, and they said the automatic heating system has some problems and there' nothing they can do about it. - I had another reservation for October 11-13. I annouced reception at check-out on Oct 10 that I will be late (around midnight) on October 11. When I arrived on October 11, they gave me a smoking room, which was impossible to breathe in. I asked for a non-smoking room and I've been told that there are no more rooms left, because I arrived very late. I found this offensive, as I announced the hotel two days before that I will be late, not to mention that I also left my luggage in the cloakroom. - after long talks, however, I was given a non-smoking room, with twin beds. It is the worst room I've ever been into, 301, it's like a coffin. Take my advise and don't offer it to other clients ever again. Also, this room was cold, as the heater was barely defrost (after turning it to maximum).
very convenient location, clean, secure no problems
Location, design and decor of the rooms I enjoyed everything and can not fault anything
Nothing Thought the hotel was grim - view from window a corrugated iron sheet. Room dark and unwelcoming. Bathroom very small with sink outside the bathroom. Lift was dirty and smelled like a toilet.
Good colours, style of reception and breakfastroon was pleasant, fireplace at receiption were really nice. No fitness room at the hotel. Wholefloor carpet is not same style than other things. Corridors ugly.
Hotel staffs were professional and polite. Free Wifi is a bonus! It will be nice if breakfast is included.
Great staff knowledgeable about area and willing to answer questions and provide direction. Rooms are clean.
Excellent all round! Will definitely stay here on future trips to Amsterdam. No iron or bathrobes!
location, nice hotel
WiFi did not work in my room (signal too weak) but worked well in lobby
Excellent location, 3 minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal
The attitude and helpfulness of staff was very good. Cleanliness and presentation was good The location suited us very well The breakfast room was too much of a crush and could have been laid out better. The afternoon coffee and evening bar facilities were given low priority.
The staff are excellent I do Think Ther price is high
Lovely comfortable room, nice decor, loved the dimming lamps. We had to queue to check in, and after our long journey to get there, we were tired and wanted to go up to our room as quick as possible.
Location Being overcharged/ They cached my deposit and failed to return it! (50 Euros)
The location and the quality, cleaness of the hotel
warm and friendly welcome. Smaller room but cleen and beautiful. Nice breakfest and Special interior design. Room a bit small
Everything...! Staff is charming, the room #405 (bridal suite) is marvelous even located in the annex and the main building for breakfest is suberb...
The Staff were amazing and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in.
We liked a lot the way the hotel is decorated a lot, it's old classic style. Apart from that, the service was very good, personnel is nice and friendly. That the heating was switched off while room cleaning and you had to come back to the cold room.
Good value for the price and location in the center of town. Very nice staff and reasonably priced breakfast!
Stayed for 4 nights and felt it was our "home" . The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the restaurants and sites we were interested in.
very comfortable and quiet hotel room not very big. Considering the price, breakfast should be included.
Friendly and helpful staff, excellent location of hotel, rooms were clean and comfortable. The coffee machine was brilliant. Would have prefered to have a room with a canal view and located in the main part of hotel not the annexe
I had a lovely stay with very helpful staff in a cosy atmosphere. I recommend sipping a cocktail by the fireplace! Nothing I can think of.
Staff, Bed, Pillows:) Internet Access
location close to Central Station Amsterdam, very close to city Center of Amsterdam ( Dam / shopping streets )
convenient location, nice accommodations a little noisy during the night since the Red Light District is right behind the hotel
the bed! they got ecellent mattresses. the location is great, right in the historical centre of amsterdam ...
The location of the hotel was central to the main tourist areas of Amsterdam. The room was not very updated and located at the very bottom of the hotel. No elevator to go down and had to go down a few sets of stairs.
It is a good locasjon Noice from the chuch bells
It was downtown.
The location was excellent & the room was very clean & comfortable . we had a back bedroom & there was a church very close by which had bells chiming hourly- not so good at 7 a.m.
Location, breakfast Not making up the room during the day, therefore not replenishing shampoo, tea, towels etc.
it was central to everything, good view from our room and the noise from the bells wasn't as bad as people said.hotel had alot of character, fun to walk around it on a rainy day.
Location Helpful staff My room the heat/ac didn't work.....
It's very central location, friendly staff and overall hassle free stay. Too short, next time I'll stay longer!
I must say the location was unbeatable for me. Very close to the Central train station and the bars around. The staff was not much friendly. I woke up afternoon due to jetlagging. The housekeeping had left already to clean up the room and change the towels. They couldn't give me extra towel. Indicating "the towel is limited". The room was so small and the bed was small and not comfortable. I wouldn't stay there again!
Good location. Really central. The hotel staff is helpful as well. The hotel room is a bit small, though the basic necessities is there.
The location is ideal if you want to be right on Dam square and close to the main shopping area. The bathroom was modern and smart, if not very small. If I had been travelling with a companion however, the glass door would have been a problem. The room was small, and whilst supposedly a non-smoking room, still had the smell of stale smoke. I booked all non-smoking rooms for the group I was travelling with, but some had smoking rooms. The rooms that faced onto the main street were very noisy with the trams directly outside. I didn't think the hotel was good value for money, although speaking to people who had stayed in other hotels for the same price, it sounds like it was the better of a bad bunch! It is easy to get around in Amsterdam so I would recommend looking for a smaller boutique-type hotel that may be slightly further to walk, but gives a much better standard for your money.
Strategic location in the heart of Amsterdam. Friendly and helpful front desk staff. Front rooms overlooking the main street are quite noisy, especially at night. This could be largely overcome by double-glazing the glass in the windows/doors.
the hotel is below fair standarard compare to the money i have paid hence i could not see much to say that it is good (one example I would like to bring here that I reserve smoking room but when I checked in i could not find it avaliable!!!) overall hotel stanadarad is below 4 stars
It was very convenient to all the museums, entertainment and shopping. Lots of restaurants and eating establishments close by.
The best thing about this hotel was the location, which was excellent. My only criticism would be the size of the rooms.
The location of the hotel was fantastic, it was so quiet I could sleep with my window open at night - a rarity in Amsterdam! The toilet was half under the washbasin as the bathroom is very small.
The hotel is within walking distance to most of the major attractions with tram service right outside the hotel. The hotel was extremely quite despite being right on Damrak. The walking directions from the Amsterdam Central Station were not clear enough. I would request adding how to get to Damrak from the Central Station.
It was located at the town centre, the staff were great and helpful, room where clean. The bathroom door was frosted glass, therefore you get no privacy, the walls are bit thin you can hear the rooms next to you.
every time when I take shower, the water always go to floor.
Helpfulness of receptionists. Closeness to Amsterdam centre. Great variety of food at breakfast. We did find it very hot in the rooms during the night but appreciate others might not have.
Central position within walking distance of the rail station and many of the attractions, good breakfast, very comfortable beds. Rooms were a little dreary because there were only wall lights in the room. Not great for reading.
close to city center and not expensive the room (single one) is a bit small for a three star hotel
The Avenue is a fine hotel for the price & punches above its weight. My room was quiet which was important as I stayed out late. It is also well sited a 5 minute walk from the station. Check out is at 12 which is good if you do not like being rushed.
Good location, quiet room and very good breakfast. Room was clean but needed refurbishing
For a city hotel, the facilities were adequate. The hotel staff were reasonably helpful.
Check in was easy and the staff helpful answering any question we posed. The buffet breakfast was varied and well stocked with staff replacing any items depleted.
The staff were friendly and knowledgable and the location was amazing for getting around, the breakfast was also good. The walls of the rooms were quite thin and it could get pretty noisy at 4am!
Improve cleaner Small size of rooms
NH is the ground zero for Amsterdam
Nothing exceptional springs to mind Badly stocked mini bar. No 24 hour restaurant/coffee shop
Location Scruffy corridors and dark bedrooms
The location Furnishing of the rooms
Calmness Had to pay EUR 100 for 4 days of broadband connection. Should be free inside the hotel.
The location was the best thing. The rooms were small, inefficient handling of processes and nothing that made me feel it to be a "grand 5* hotel". They should take a lesson from Germans in Efficiency... or another grand hotel in their neighborhood.
Top Location, Friendly Staff Rooms, even booked early and got a cheap price, do not match at all a 5 star hotel. The room rate compensated a bit for it, but definitely disappointed by a hotel which has such a famous name.
Check in/ out not very efficient
המלון עובר שיפוץ בלובי שלא ידענו בעת ההזמנה, אני חושב שזה פרט חשוב לדעת בעת ההזמנה, זה לא היה קריטי אבל רלוונטי. 25-5-2015
Very relaxed friendly atmosphere
We have stayed at this hotel twice now and it is in an excellent central location. The hotel reception is beautiful and the rooms are also in keeping with this. Our recent room was very clean, comfortable big bed and with all the amenities that you would expect. Prior to this we have stayed in one of the suites which are excellent but of course pricey. The general rooms are a good price - not the cheapest but you do get what you pay for. We didnt book the breakfast as this made the room price too expensive.
2nd stay, had a bathtub this time ++ Central location. Clean. Cheap. We couldn't have a smoking room, even though we indicated a preference for one. The rooms all seemed to have been renovated with hard flooring which made adjacent rooms a lot more noisy.
This is the place to stay for visitors to Amsterdam. Great location near everything. Great restaurants and bars near by. One of the better coffee shops and smart shops just a minute away. Nothing.
Location, freindliness of staff
The only concern, was the checking in it seem too long and you did have 3 staff on. However th ques for checking in was getting longer as the staff seem to take telephone calls when attending to people checking in.
The staff Lack of information ,should make clear what the hotel offers .ie. breakfast not included no smoking signs ,never saw in rooms but rooms was clean and nice.
Location, price, excellent staff and wonderful building... This was the third time I have stayed at this hotel, and on both previous occasions I was allocated a much larger room than this time around... This time, the room we were given felt a little cramped, especially the bathroom. Also, the room contained only one mirror, inside one of the wardrobe doors, and there was only one bedside table. I will definately use the hotel again in the future for its excellent location, condition and helpful staff, but my fondness for the hotel has been slightly reduced because of the size of our room.
easy to access all areas of amsterdam ( very central location) No, everything was great, i enjoyed my stay and will book thier again when i return to Asterdam.
Cosy, friendly staff. No problems no free wifi
The rooms were very nice and clean. The breakfast was excellent. The staff was very kind. My brother lives in Paris and is recommending the Hotel Estherea to any of his friends/associates who are planning to visit Amsterdam. The bar wasn't open until the evening. I would have liked to have a cocktail after I checked in...but there were plenty of places around there to have one - so it was not a big deal.
Everything was excellent. Beautiful old world charm, large spacious room, staff was outstanding in every way with help on questions, places to eat and see and making reservations. No
Loved the hotel and the staff were incredible. Will always stay there in the future. Room are small but beautiful. Rooms facing the canal had very little storage space.
The beautiful classic design interiors. The room as well.
Well situated hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably comfortable bedroom, although small. Nice clean and well appointed bathroom. Hotel bedroom was rather small and paintwork on windows peeling.
Great view overlooking the Singel Canal Friendly atmosphere Brilliant location
Location, Lounge, Coffee and goodies at reception Beds hard
Location, interior design, breakfast, coffee/cakes, most staff Poor window, let in a lot of street noise, with what we paid for 2 nights (c.€380) they could buy a double glazed window (about 4 ft by 3 ft) which would be a big benefit for future users of the room. While most staff were friendly, the receptionist we mostly dealt with was businesslike/efficient rather than friendly. (my wife might use different words!)
Good location. Not very modern. Adds 10 years to your life. People 50+ loves it I guess...
i liked the location and the room. the bed was a little too soft.
Clean, good location. Staff rude, changed our room about 5 times to get the one we wanted, barged into our room when we checked out 5 minutes late, overall wouldnt recommend for the price.. they act like having you is a chore and dont ever give you any help.
Location, bright room overlooking the canal and helpful staff N/A
location bed was terrible
The location is excellent, the beds were comfortable and breakfast was good. The bathroom had some humidity problems and the luggage storage room was very small and unguarded.
the location, the view from the windows and the modernised rooms, loby etc. facilities in the rooms (no minibar, chair, desc etc.) - because the room was very small (no. 471
It was a lovely clean room with very friendly staff. It was in a nice central location. Breakfast was nice. We had the small room which was close to the reception but it was an ok size for a weekend away. It would have been nice to have tea/coffee facilities in the room.
It was very close to the Anne Frank House, the train station, and lots of restaurants. The staff let me in my room early to store my luggage and change clothes. Breakfast was not included in the price of the room.
Internet acces from the rooms and free available
The friendly and helpful attitude of the reception staff. The location.
Location, cost (very reasonable for central Amsterdam)
Location was great. Breakfasts were very good.
It's position is ideal in a town like Amsterdam. As you get off you can easily reach every part of the center of the town I was hosted in a 4th floor room, with very narrow stairs and the room is very very small.
The balcony was excellent. Despite my booking stating a "deluxe single with balcony", I was offered a non balcony room. However this was soon changed by the charming member of staff, she could not have been more helpful & friendly. Would stay here again. My telly had no remote control but since I was out most of the time, it did not really matter
good location..balcony a great bonus..rooms a bit old but clean and warm! staff v.helpful esp guy on nights who made us tea a few times coz there was no facilities in our room!! never tried breakfast!! steep stairs from street level to reception-pack light!!!!
Location. Poor breakfast buffet selection. Room hot at night, No sound insulation from traffic noise. Unable to pay with credit card.
Great location, staff was very nice, continental breakfast was OK. Room was outdated and not perfectly clean, but that was expected. If you are OK with steep stairs (you have to be prepared for them), then you'll be fine.
It's near Dam square, near supermarket No lift
The staff couldn't be worse!
Location very good. We found the breakfast choice poor.
The location on the canal. Easy access to trams and everything and anything within the city. The room was very small, but this wasn't a huge problem. Breakfast was so-so, but it was fine for grabbing some cereal, coffee, and orange juice.
Very responsive staff I forgot to ask about stairs and elevators which is essential in Amsterdam. This one has long, steep stairs
Positive: Staff are great, location great, great price. Negative: Temperature uncomfortable, not air conditioned.
Staff were excellent and the location couldn't have been better.
The readiness to help by the front desk staff; especially the lady from Finland (sorry, I forgot her name), who took extra pain to arrange for a taxi early in the morning, got confirmation in writing; The hotel don't change towels unless you go and tell them repeatedly; rooms were not made up on regular basis, unless you run behind them; we stayed for 6 nights and it was not changed at all; beds were made only twice during this period; Each room should have a water kettle, which is a standard in most of the hotels throughout Eurpoe.
In the centre of Amssterdam with prima connections, tram etc. I think chech out at 10:30 is a bit early.
Location, the hotel is close to everywhere. The greatest thing about the hotel is definitely the location. And also the prices are fair. Amsterdam got very expensive lately after switching to european currancy. The steep stairs are very hard to climb especially with suitcase, there is no elevator and the rooms are very small almost no place to move.. I don't recommend double rooms, twins are probably better.
i liked that the staff was very friendly and helpful Sanna was the one that sticks out as she was so nice and we liked that the staff rotated and get to do all the types of work desk as well as cleaning we will be back for another stay the steep stairs just kidding it was a great stay
Excellent location. No lift, the window wouldn't close completely, the shower was not separate from the rest of the bathroom.
Very good central location Tiny Rooms
The location is perfect and the rooms pleasant
Very good staff, great location. Next to 5 star conference hotel. Rooms are not double glazed - so street can be a little noise. No tea facilities in room. No Lift.
frriendly staff and good breakfast The hotel is a bit dated but typical of centre city hotels.
Location The room was unbelievably small and the bath was not properly cleaned.
Good location Matchbox sized room with least possible lighting!
Friendliness of the staff................. Very noisy.................plus too much cigarette smoke!
Good location. Large room although single occupancy. Good shower/bath. Breakfast served 7-10am and good choice and variety. Asked for non-smoking room which I got. Wooden floors made it rather noisy when people walked or rolled luggage through the corridors. Staff not the most friendly but efficient.
Reception staff is very kind and friendly. Hotel location was very good to access restaurants and shopping/sight seeing area. Single Room was not big, but big enough to stay 1 night and sleep. Room was clean. Nothing special.
The hotel as a whole was okay but the room was inacceptable. the hotel room was very, very small and noisy due to a staircase just above it. (room no.11)
Location and cleanliness too small room
Wonderful breakfast, nice staff, has a lift!! Excellent location. There were 3 of us staying in one room, crowded but worked out fine. Figuring out the radiator for heat was interesting. But not really a problem as beds were very warm!
