This hotel offers the best location in downtown of Banff. Walking distance to shops, bars, restaurants and hiking trails. The room was decked out with beautiful woodwork and has great view . The beds and bedding were comfortable and room was clean. We would stay there again.
It was a wonderful hotel. Location was perfect. Only complaint is that it was loud at night. They do provide you with ear plugs and you definitely need it.
Great city of Banff. Great location. Hotel is clean. Receptionist is very nice. Some of the carpet had stains. they need a carpet cleaning to remove the stains. but other than that. their rooms are attempting to be more modern like holiday inn express and other competitors.
The beds It was noisy late into the night.
Good location, comfortable rooms and nice hot tub. With the hotel being right downtown, there was quite a bit of noise at 2-3 a.m. in front of the hotel.
My first room was too hot so I went to the front desk as was accomodated immediately without any issues.
The location The outside street noise around this hotel was very loud at night. The hotel's windows were very poor and we could hear way too much.
it was central very dated decor, the room was extermely small and smelled, as well all the lamps in the room were broken, furniture and walls scarred.
The quantness of the room and the friendly staff The loud kids room next door. Had to call the desk to have them talk to the room next door.
Location right in middle of town, they were flexible with us leaving a day early. They put us in part of hotel without direct access lobby.
The location is great with clean, comfortable rooms. No fridge in room & pop in pop machine was warm. There was no 'do not disturb' placards in the room so was woken up by housekeeping my first day. They were eventually able to find one for me and then everything was great.
It's a great location, right in the middle of Banff Ave. Everything is very close. Shopping, candy store, resturatants, bars - perfect location if you are looking into staying I did not like how there were no fridges in the rooms - could use a modern update, harder beds as you literally sunk in the mattress and it formed around you - 0 for support.
Location was good I expected that there is basic amenities like refrigerator, air-conditioning, microwave considering cost and 3-star rating of facility. But nothing was there. They just put a table fan which was not very comfortable after full day's activities for a good night sleep for hot summer days. Floors were squeaky and making noise while walking. Parking was horrible, very narrow and it took lots of time and adjustments to safely park. Breakfast was okay. Nothing special.
I liked the location, the staff was friendly and the room was clean. The bus was able to pick me up at the door which was very convenient. The rooms had no a/c and the temperature was set pretty high when I arrived. I opened the windows and left them open till about 1am but the alley outside the window was very noisy with people drinking and smoking drugs so I had to close the window, then I woke up feeling horrible as the room was so hot you could barely breath. The next night was cooler outside so the temperature was much more comfortable, but a guy on a motorcycle showed up in the alley at midnight and started revving the engine, and talking with all the people in the alley. It's probably a much better place to stay when it's winter time.
Lodge was very clean and had only what you needed; no extra bells and whistles. Parking is horrendous. Had a Nissan Pathfinder which took 10 minutes to park in a little wee spot with many support columns surrounding the parkade. Would be easy to park a Ford Fiesta in. Also there is NO AIRCONDITIONING, only a fan provided by Brewsters. It was 27 in Banff on one day of our stay there and the room was overly hot and uncomfortable. No mini fridge to keep cold drinks in.
The room was a decent size and the staff were fairly friendly. The room we had was facing the back alley and every morning at 7am a delivery truck beeped and banged it's way around for 30 minutes making sure you couldn't go back to sleep.
-Ideal location in downtown, walking distance from restaurants and shops and trailheads -Decent continental breakfast -Good value for money -Accommodating staff -Our room smelled a bit of sweaty socks
Great location. I read some reviews and thought the room wouldn't be that great but I booked it for location. The room I had was very nice and comfortable. I would stay here again. pool was also very nice. It would have been nice to have 2 chairs on the balcony.
Staff was friendly Needs a renovation
Central location, friendly staff. Bed spreads near a serious cleaning, stains and frays are everywhere.
Leisure facilities were excellent. Comfy beds too. No free wi-fi. They charge $10-a-day.
The location, close to the Banff main street. The facilities need an upgrade, especially the bathrooms. They are really showing their age both in appearance and function. The hot tub and jacuzzi were tepid at best, and the pool was freezing.
It was quiet and comfortable, except for the occasional train whistle, which occurred intermittently through the night. Location was close to Banff Avenue.
All around a pleasant experience
The location was just perfect
Great location for exploring Banff and its walking trails (we parked the car in the hotel garage and did not use it again during our stay). Quick check-in/check-out, friendly staff. Parking in underground garage is $9.50 per day - but most streets and parking lots in downtown Banff have 3 hour max. for parking.
Very nice and clean room. Location fantastic. Resort town so all hotels are expensive. Didnt like being charged for parking or internet.
Great location close to some of the tourist attractions in Banff. Very convenient walking distance to shopping and dozens of restaurants. Very nice staff. Parking garage was very convenient. Looked like an ideal facility for small conferences. Check-in and check-out were a breeze. Had wired internet in one wing -- speed 5Mb/1.5Mb. Nice shops downstairs off the lobby. It was a bit pricey in the high summer season, but so were many other things in Banff. Extra daily cost for wifi and underground parking. Hotel was mostly quiet, but a little noisy when trains came through, not awful. Room layout and some furnishings were dated (mixed ages/styles), but the room was reasonably comfortable. Maintenance of some plumbing fixtures was deficient (I have no clue why housekeeping staff coordinates so poorly with the maintenance crew in many hotels such as this). My rating would have been higher if staff had bothered to take just 15 seconds of screwdriver time on the shower handles. Front desk person was unaware of wired internet, "We don't have that!" But they do in one wing. Be aware that Banff town is a significant distance from the Icefields Parkway.
Location. Free parking Breakfast could be defined better by staff
Location. The room was below standard. There was dust on the rug behind the door, the drain was plugged in the bathroom tub, the shower fixture needs to be replaced. In my opinion, the hotel is showing it's age. Serious consideration should be given to a complete renovation. I have stayed here before but this time was disappointing.
Great location - walk into town. Nice breakfast buffet. Employees friendly and helpful. The walls must be a little thin as the rooms tend to be on the noisy side. Not a huge deal as we would stay again.
Location is great and they have a bar/restaurant within the hotel. When we checked in we were upgraded from the standard room to the deluxe room. But in reality it felt like a downgrade!! Bathroom was not clean. There was dust and hair in the bathroom in some corners. The bath tub contained stains and was not properly cleaned. We thought of having a cup of coffee and we were dissapointed that the inside of the coffee maker was dusty, seems like nobody used it in a while. Just to draw comparison hotels like Extended Stay America are way better in cleanliness and cheaper. Unless u want to stay close to Banff I would never recommend this hotel.
the spa and the comphy bed, great sleep! nothing
Great location. Very friendly staff. Underground parking was terrifying in my large SUV! Found street parking no problem however.
construction but it wasn't too bad
Location; clean, comfortable, courteous and helpful staff, accessible, room well sized, thoughtfully designed bathroom. No way of controlling temperature of room; we found it too warm. Breakfast buffet dry and unappetising, but a la carte menu very good. Dinner menu-- better eats elsewhere.
The Ptarmigan Inn is located right in Downtown Banff within a block of the "Downtown strip" and has great underground parking so you don't have to really venture outside into any bad weather. What I was not impressed with and that was not on the travel web site when I selected my room is that a large number of their rooms have no external window and only look-out onto one of two interior courtyards. This can be ok if you are not on the main floor, but the room I received was a main-floor room and we could not keep our blinds open because of the constant stream of people walking by a few feet from our window. Another annoyance is that our room did not have ANY heating controls and was very warm. This must be a known issue with this room as the hotel also equipped it with a desk fan. This is NOT the kind of room I would expect from a hotel billing itself as a 3 or 4 star accommodation and charging $300+ for the night.
Construction of building right outside our window/balcony. Very loud. Bed uncomfortable. Went to check out and the guy at desk told us we didn't pay even though I had proof in an email. Told me it was never paid or registering in there computer. Had to go to visa to prove that I had paid. Close to all everything. Free parking. Breakfast was great.
Proximity to down town and the low cost. Did not have Tot Tub for relaxing after hikes up mountains
Facilities and location to downtown..... The fact that my room heating wasn't working and they supplied me with a small room heater, after i asked to be moved...not very impressed.and because of the noise of the Heater fan all night did not get a good sleep.I'm not sure if i will use this place again nor recommend it because of this.......I will be attending a conference in Nov19th & 20th and i was looking at staying in the Ptarmingan Inn......??????/
I liked having time to spend with my family at a reasonable rate, and being surrounded by mountains.
Conveniently located, friendly staff, underground parking and complementary breakfast. Indoor swimming pool.
The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. We asked for extra coffee and we received it. Service was very good. The carpets did not look all that clean. Could use some brighting up. It is an older hotel but served our purpose.
location is convenient -- 3-4 blocks to downtown shops and restaurants. free underground parking is included. free wifi is included. business center computer has a fee for everyone. in order to print boarding pass or other printout, you need to pay to use computer and printer in lobby
Rooms were clean. Very close to Banff center The need for a deposit for essentials. Didn't feel that was necessary .
Location provides easy access to downtown. Parking was good but the automatic garage door opener was baffling. the dining facility is very good. I forget the name. Pricey. Rooms are small. Bathroom was small. I could hardly turn around. Motel is dated-needs an upgrade.
i really enjoyed the mountains. the beds were really comfortable the par that i didnt like was that we didnt have breakfast. i still appreciated the fact that we had a free breakfast
Convenient location. Fridge but no microwave. Breakfast was no longer complementary. The travel sized shampoos were half empty, and the bar of soap was used. Pretty sure someone was smoking in their room, maybe it's allowed, but was not something I appreciated.
Clean, spacious, and nicely furnished room and bathroom. Beautiful scenery (balcony a plus!). Convenient location. Decorative and welcoming lobby. Friendly staff. Reasonable rates. Underground parking. Relaxing atmosphere. Loved it! No microwave in the room, laundry facilities, or water fountain that I could find. No big deal but a microwave would have been a plus!
Pool and hot tub area is clean and very relaxing. Continental breakfast was pathetic. Rooms were also very hot during the night.
I enjoyed the quite modern and spacious rooms and clean, white bed linens. Also the facilities offered i.e. small fridge, extra table and chairs were useful. Not enough lights in the room.
Our stay was satisfactory. The hotel is run down and needs renovations - worn carpets, old paint, etc.
We really enjoyed our room, it was clean and quiet. The location was excellent, and the staff were very nice and helpfull. We look forward to staying there again. Thank you for the wonderful experience.
I liked how close the hotel was to downtown. the service was poor, the rooms were outdated, smelly and the carpet in the room was wet because the toilets were leaking.
Great loft room for family. Great location right in downtown. Staff is great. Beds and furniture is old and worn out. Everything is clean but needs a update.
Restaurant hours were very poor. Room cleaning & refurbishing did not seem to be of importance. Food not worth charged price. Room not worth charged price.
Good price for off season and staff were pleasant and friendly. The beds were hard and small. The bedding seemed like more summer suitable rather than winter. Room temperature was difficult to control.
Location Hotel staff (i stayed a long time in a line waiting for the staff)
The restaurant in the lobby - "Ricky's" - is average at best. It's not the type of restaurant you would want international visitors to get an impression of Canadian food. A nice independently owned restaurant showcasing Canadian recipes and produce would be a much better option.
- great location: The hotel is right on Banff ave. It is within easy walking distance of shopping and restaurants. - Busy hotel: Brewster tours run out of the lobby. If your room faces the front of the hotel it can be loud. - Lack of A/C can make the rooms hot in the summer.
Location, quiet,bar, atmosphere.
The view from the window was fantastic and the room was nice and clean. Unreliable wifi
It was convenient, reasonable priced and comfortable.
There is underground parking and was located close to shopping and restaurants and very clean - good continental breakfast.
The hottub was pretty good, longer hours would be nice. Full cable TV was excellent. comforter on bed wasn't clean. The coffee for continental breakfast was too weak. Drunks on the street at closing time were too loud.
Comfortable, to have fridge and coffee in room. Great! I liked the list for the tv channels. Very helpful! It's a little dated, but a good value!
The staff is helpful. The hotel is walking distance to the shops and restaurants (as all hotels in the street which has many hotels). The hotel is old and the floor to our room tilted a little. The breakfast has not many options. The wi-fi is slow and sometimes we could not connect it from our room.
Rooms were clean and a decent size. Great location. Most shopping and restaurants are within a 10 minute walk Hotel is a little dated, other than that it seems to be a decent enough hotel if that kind of thing doesn't bother you. I would stay here again no problem
clean environment, convenient location
staff was pleasant they resolved problem with air conditoner quickly.outside of hotel was attractive as well as was lobby.Hotel was within easy walking distant of downtown Banff and we appreciate Hotel being pet friendly Air conditioing marginal at best .Was not particularly hot weather but unit couldnot keep up over night. Rug in room needs attention has folds needs to be restretched
Room was ready before check-in time. Check-in was quick and efficient. Breakfast selection was weak.
The room is clean and comfortable. Some of the hotel staffs are not friendly at all, too busy surfing the internet. The wifi signal is very bad and internet connection is very slow, just slightly better than 56.6K modem.
the price the pool was out of order and was not told at time of booking if would have known i would have never booked
The outdoor hot tubs are amazing!!! The smaller hot tub needed the chemicals adjusted, your skin kinda stank when you got out.
We loved our stay at Aspen. The hotel is in a great location, the breakfast is great too. We loved the homeade breads and granola. It was also nice to have a heated garage for our rental.
I was not aware when booking the rooms that the prices were in US dollars, not Canadian. This could be made clearer on your web site.
The hotel is situated well in the town of Banff, facilities are nice and updated and the staff are very friendly. Nothing in particular
Location was steps away from downtown Banff, it can barely be beaten. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. It was nice to have a great free breakfast in the morning before heading out for the day! The hot tubs in the courtyard were very convenient and had a relaxing atmosphere. I definitely recommend this hotel if you can get a deal! Nothing was really a deal breaker, however if you end up stuck in the room for any reason (sick, injured, etc.) the televisions are very dated, which surprised me compared to the rest of the hotel.
Loved the modern design and location. Rooms were very squishy. No room to move around.
The hotel is in a great location, it was only a block to the grocery store and two blocks to the downtown area. Buses pick up for the ski hills at the hotel next door. Breakfast in the morning was a great start to the day and the servers where very friendly and welcoming! Rooms were spacious and gVe us plenty of room to spread out. I would rec'd and stay again We lost power one day for 6 hours, and none of the facilities were working and our room was dark, would have been a non issue but that was our off ski day and we just wanted to relax around the hotel that day...
The hot tubs were amazing, however it would be nice if they were open 24hours. The breakfast bar was mediocre; there was one older waiter with gray hair who was very rude. Unforunately the horrible waiter definitely impacted our stay and left a bad last impression.
The hotel is very nicely renovated-lots of thought seems to have been put into the design. The courtyard with the pool and hot tub is tastefully done and very inviting. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were excellent and the breakfast was good. A great location for walking around the town. The light switches were a bit hard to find and the room was quite stuffy, very little air circulation. Fairly expensive, but it was high season and busy in Banff.
This lodge was perfectly located for our weekend in Banff. We ran the Banff marathon on Sunday, and we could not beat the location and value of this hotel. The staff were great. I would stay there again. As others have noted, earplugs are helpful. Noise was not a big issue for us, but you can hear conversations in the hallway while in the room.
Quiet, especially for so close the the center of town. Near the river. It was also useful that it was near very near the hospital as we were rather sick, probably thanks to the flights to Canada. Would be rather expensive for what you get if it weren't for the location.
The Hotel is close to the lake Tha hotel dont have facilities we have to cross to the other hotel
Location close to downtown and yet quiet with nice walk outside by the river directly across. Tub did not drain very well.
balcony with view of the Bow river room was quite basic and hotel decor was old for the price
Good room with a great view Very pleasant staff and good leisure facilities None
The pool and steam room which belonged to the other hotel. It was run down...the balcony had stains all over it and the railing was all rusty. Our sheets had a stain on them and so did the long pillow that lays on the bed. The people beside us were smoking drugs and reported it to the staff and nothing was done. When we returned that evening they were smoking pot again and our room smelled. They should have been asked to leave. We will not be returning.
We liked that it was so close to the water. It was very relasing listening to the water
I liked the location overlooking the bow river. It is also very close to downtown.
The size of the room and view from the room was perfect The pool was not in our building
I like the small town, homey atomsphere!
good location good views access to food shops and travel opportunities no lounge in actual hotel found it very basic first receptioness did not understand us and we did not understand her english poor
Cheap hotel, don't expect too much.
Great Downtown location with easy access to free parking. A very quiet secure building with lowest rates in town. It was a very short walk to restaurants, coffee shops, pubs an internet cafe and many small shopping malls, also two large grocery stores and a 5 or 10 minutes walk to hiking trails. Carpet needed replacing in the room
We really liked the quaint atmosphere of the hotel. It was also great to be right in the heart of Banff next to great dining and nightlife. Great room for the price, especially if you are planning on staying out late at one of the night spots within walking distance. All in all it was good. The only thing that was just slightly inconvenient is that the parking is in the overnight public parkade behind the hotel. It's a small walk and not as secure as some places but really it's not an issue. If you plan to retire early then this might not be the place for you as its right on the hub of Banff's nightlife. But if you want the Banff experience this is the best place for the price.
location and price, staff
Location....location....location ... Everything was close We stayed in room 204 I think. The bed frame was broken and we could not sleep on the bed. We ended up sleeping on the hard floor. Would like to try again but not sure whether or not to recommend to others.
Really nothing. Other than being clean Parking was thro unsafe back street with unclear directions or markings. Did not look after clients as elevator broken and no staff hired to help with cases as seniors we had to carry cases down 3 flights
i liked that the hotel was central, right where all the restaurants and shops were. within walking distance to everything we wanted. very convenient. and at a good price n/a
The beds were amazingly comfortable and had a great view of downtown Banff! When we first arrived, there was no one at the desk and we called the 24 hour service number about 10 times, always leading to voicemail and having us wait a long time for someone to finally check us in.
Location and price Too close to bars, very noisy at last call
The hotel staff were always very polite and helpful. There was no swimming pool.
Friendly and helpful staff Breakfast was OK but I think the provided continental could have offered a bit more variety
the room was clean, it had fridge in the room. the staff was also very friendly. i did not like the bathroom, it was very small, plus the sink was outside the bathroom. i had my kids with me and while they were sleeping it was not appropriate for me to make noise in the room. not a good location to put the sink
This is a very convenient location as it is in the heart of Banff. The hotel is within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. There is also a restaurant located within the hotel. Obviously this is a fairly old hotel and we found that the plumbing needed updating (drains very slow) but considering the cost, everything was satisfactory.
I liked that it was close to downtown Banff so we could walk to go shopping and sightseeing. The underground parking has to low clearance for my van. The parking lot is too small for the amount of traffic. I't has little room to get in and out.
Location is pretty good, only a 5 minute walk to the town. The manager was good Car park is to small to fit an suv into. Air conditioning is poor The decor needs some maintenance Have to pay the total up front on arrival
Clean, comfort and new stuffs Breakfast not so good
There was renovations going on that we were bit told about before booking
The proximity to downtown area During our stay, the parking was terrible. I am sure it is due to renovations. Additionally, we found the first floor (where our room was ) to be quite noisy.
Very friendly staff, willing to help with any questions we had, and very comfy beds! Also loved the hottub after a day in the slopes.
We enjoyed the fireplace and comfortable, leather chairs. We enjoyed the close proximity to downtown. We didn't like the fact that the hotel was undergoing construction. We were forced to accept a ground level room which was fine given the circumstances but would have preferred knowing in advance that renovations were happening. For the small difference in cost with a few other hotels we may not have chosen one where construction was happening. The room was quiet though so no real interruption. Just would have preferred a room with a view.
Location Noisy rooms, noise from pets, older building, 3 times calling off by not so courteous front desk staff despite we were checking out from room while checking out.
good breakfast and swimming pool for kids
Location. The Movies on demand did not work. Our air conditioner did not work very well.
Good location, protected car park, free WiFi, friendly staff. Indoor swimming pool. The breakfast room was too small for the size of the hotel. The breakfast restaurant was understaffed, but the staff was very friendly and tried to make the best out of it. The result were queues for the breakfast, missing food on the buffet, missing plates and cutlery. But apart from that, the breakfast was good.
Check in and check out was a breeze. I booked this hotel for me and my family of 5. I payed $400 for 1 night for a room with sofa bed and king size bed with jacuzzi in the room. Friendly staff. Accomodation included a full breakfast. Free cofee is a thumbs up. Not much positive. As I walked in, I noticed that its outdated and lighting is dark and old. The hallway is tight for two people. Pool is outdated, small, boring, and water looks dirty. Parking height limit is only 5'9". Trucks don't fit. Jacuzzi tub in the room is not clean as I found lots of small little hair floating about when I filled it up. The jets have yellow dirt stain around them. The bed is uncomfortable because it's too soft and pillows are too soft and worn out. The sofa bed is even more uncomfortable because its outdated and worn out and too soft that provides no support. You can acually feel the springs on your back. I do not recommend you to stay here. It's not worth your buck for that price per night.
