Nice Interior Design. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. This is a much better location than other hotels I have stayed at further south. We took a very nice walk north to Lincoln Park. It is a beautiful neighborhood and does not even feel like you are in the city. Too pricey for me to use other than business. I did not need or use "facilities" so that is the only reason I did not give that an "excellent" score. We were not impressed with the breakfast food. We were very pleased with our lunch at Gibson's across the street.
We chose the Thompson Hotel for its location and value on Kayak. If I was traveling alone on business it would have been a better choice. They are super accomaditing allowing us to check in at 11:00 am without any problems. They also have a great online precheck in service. There is a Starbucks next door and good restaurants all around it. The precheck in service is a great idea however, it is as if you actually request something like an extra blanket or extra towels which were questions on the precheck in system they do not fulfill them. The elevator system requires you to use your room key to get up to your floor however, there is only one reader per elevator and it was virtually impossible to get to it when using the elevator. So many people were talking about riding the elevator up and down trying to get to their floors. The showers were never hot just warm regardless of the time of day. The A/C was all over the the place, hot / cold. The room refresh was seriously below average and actually just a really bad bed make up with fresh towels. They basically missed at the attempt to be a chic boutique hotel. There is no real identity to this property.
The beautiful view of lake Michigan. Close proximity to great restaurants and shopping. Nico Osteria restaurant within the hotel was excellent. The room was beautifully decorated, very comfortable bed, reading light ( unexpected), and huge bathroom and shower. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. One of the late afternoons we needed to call for extra towels, since our room had not been cleaned, and we had been out all day. I do realize that this weekend was a home Bears foorball game and was very busy.
The Thompson Hotel Staff were amazing, very friendly and accommodating. We were upgraded to a corner king suite as it was our wedding night so that was a pleasant surprise as well. Overall wonderful experience. Would definitely go back. Nothing!
Fantastic location, outstanding room. Would go back in a minute.
The bed and shower were amazing!
Body hair on the bathroom sink. stains on toilet. Kind of gross for the price.
comfy bed, great location, nice lobby. Front desk lady was not very helpful. Toilet smelled like sewage. They called me from front desk to tell me someone was at my door from hotel personnel when I had privacy sign on...that woke me up...What kind of "privacy on" is this?
We loved everything about it. From the very beginning (checkin) till the very last second before we left the hotel. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. The Concierge made arrangements for a boat trip on the Chicago River. Housekeeping kept our room in perfect shape. We had a room on the 21st floor which had the perfect view towards the chicago skyline. It was awesome. I gladly recommend to visit the Thompson Chicago and will for sure also book on other occasions other Thompson hotels. Thank you for this very wonderful and perfect vacation, Thompson. nothing!
We had a great weekend staying at The Thompson! The location, staff and room were outstanding! We will definitely be staying here again!
We go downtown every Christmas and this was the first time we stayed here. We loved it. Friendly staff, wonderful accommodation, and great location. We will certainly be back.
People are friendly Restaurant is very good Design is current Beds are comfortable air conditioning unit in room was loud
Comfortable, elegant, convenient excellent accomodations. Food very good but somewhat overpriced. The hotel tower is very tall and our initial room on the 40th floor was very noisy in the wind and rain storm. The swaying was not noticable but the sound of creaking wall and ductwork was uncomfatably loud. The staff did move us to a lower floor to a large apartment suit which was very quiet.
when I make check out from the hotel they told me i have to pay more than what booking website show me,after desscution they agree to refund 110 $ to me.
Very good location.
They had absolutely no trace of our reservation on arrival, but after some spirited discussion more than made good the upheaval.
The bed is gorgeusly confortable Many problems with shower, room cleaning, front desk attendece, etc.
Location/spa and swimming pool None
Location! And they left a small treat for my child every afternoon.
Very good welcome and staff performance An elevator alarm went off in the middle of the night and it took over one hour to fix it - not conducive to comfortable sleep.
Great restaurant recommendation and service!
Hotel has great location, very nice accomodations. There was broken glass in the bar and I cut my finger pretty badly on our first night at the hotel. Although hotel staff was very nice and they did call security, I thought they could have done more in way of compensation. In hindsight, I probably needed stitches and other than call to my room by the manager (who had already left by the time we got back to the room), they really didn't even follow-up.
loved the architecture, nice view, price was great, good bar, convenient to lots of things in Chicago, usual helpful Sofitel staff . . .
Sofitel is my new favorite Hotel.
Clean room, good location, good food Difficulty of reaching the concierge by phone and having to listen to recorded advertising of the hotel while waiting
the room was wonderful - the bed and linens were superior
Fantastic location, close to the Magnificent Mile and Water Tower. The building is strikingly modern.
My husband and I loved this hotel. We have stayed in several hotels on or near Michigan Ave and this was the best. The hotel is beautiful and is in the perfect location for us. A short walk to the subway, excellent restaurants along Rush Street and of course fabulous shopping. I will definitely stay here again even though it's a little more than I usually like to pay.
Swanky and chic hotel located in the heart of Chicago only steps away from shopping, great restaurants and all that the city has to offer. It's upscale, hip and a great value -- with a very comfortable bed to boot! What more could you want?
Situated in a good area very convinient for shopping and buisness. I was not allowed a late check out as my flight was late evening.
Staff was excellent, they shipped me something that I left in the room immediately. Very clean, they even put a birthday surprise for my husband in room upon arrival. When you enter the main lobby there is no rest room, you have to take elevator to the 2nd floor. After traveling so long one needs to use the facility fast. Also parking fees a bit high per day, the hotel I stay at offers free parking to its guests
Likes the character and location. Beds were comfortable and space was good. Tv was huge and state of the art. Bathroom was small and outdated.
The only thing going for the hotel is location and price. The rooms were small and dark. The bathroom had the most perplexing layout and the hot water took a full 5 minutes to get hot for a shower. It wasn't as clean as I like a hotel to be (hair from previous guests on the shower wall. Gross).
Comfortable beds A little pricey and some attn to detail needed for rooms falling apart. (Cracks in ceilings etc)
Perfectly situated for seeing the sights, enjoying the music scene, shopping, and exploring the beaches. The gym only had one treadmill. The 2nd was broken. But we had so much fun doing other things that we never hit the gym.
Location was amazing!! Super close to shopping and pretty much everything! Cute antique ish feel to it. Nice and clean, staff super nice and helpful!
Friendly and courteous staff The vent was blowing air at my face every time the hvac kicked in while I was trying to sleep.
Hotel was clean, friendly staff For an advertised 2nd best bed in hotels...the bed was TERRIBLE.
Super comfy bed, awesome location. Hotel is steps from the magnificent mile and a short walk to the lake. Small lobby and elevators, room was in need of some small wear and tear repairs.
Location One elevator. ... Waited forever and it was full when it came!
The location was right on the money, with some of the sights of downtown just a few minutes away. The price was also very good. Our room did not have a fridge for us to put leftovers into or a microwave to heat them in. Also, the window coverings needed a good update and looked old and grungy.
Good price for the weekend, nice view of the Hancock, neat they have options for food and drinks downstairs. We got to the Whitehall around 6:30PM on Friday night, to find one of the automatic doors to enter was not working correctly. Next up: one of the elevators (of only 2 tiny elevators) was broken down. Everything had a luster of the past, but needed updating, cleaning, replacing, etc. In our room, the carpet was stained and one of our sheets had a hole in it. To add insult to injury, of the 2 phones in the bedroom, one didn't work at all, and the other only worked if you pressed 0. (ie, none of the corresponding keys to concierge etc worked). The shower faucet where you adjust the temperature was also broken - as it was loose and hard to finagle into getting a temperature that didn't scald or freeze you. And maybe the worst of all? We had gone out for brunch on Saturday, and come back, said we didn't want to be disturbed, but then, while we were napping, someone CAME INTO OUR ROOM without knocking to check our minibar!!! What?! Who does this!?!? This hotel is 2 star-worthy, not 4. They need to SERIOUSLY up their game or deal with reality. Also - we were charged for 2 items (a granola bar and candy bar) that we didn't even take. The lady said "sometimes touching something in the minibar triggers these prices). I said "that would make sense if either thing were even *in* the minibar!" So, there you go. That's the truth of the place. Judge for yourself.
-Perfect Location: We walked EVERYWHERE and the Whitehall was always a great starting point and place to come back to for a moment of rest. -Friendly Staff -Good value: We spent very little time in the room, so it served it's purpose. -Steps away from the John Hancock Building and Michigan Ave. -Carpet was a little grungy. -Bed wasn't super comfy, but I still slept well. Overall, a good value for the money. Would stay here again because it was such a great location and the staff was very friendly.
The 'free' wifi was only free in the lobby. Otherwise the stay was excellent and the location can't be beat!
The staff members were very friendly, helpful and professional. The building is in a great location!
It was so comfortable! And the staff did all they could to make it more so. We arrived at 6 AM after driving through a storm. They found a room for us right away so that we were able to test before our meeting. The concierge was available evenings and weekends, and was able to advise us about the best way to use our time. Nothing
Fantastic location, and the staff is very friendly. It's gotten quite shabby.
The best I would say is, great location, nice staff and nice bed. Spoiler alert. Don't read this if you got a great rate and don't want to be persuaded not to stay. It's an old building. What Tremont really needs to do is spend a lot of money and gut out old plumbing etc. New carpet and a nice bed doesn't, a nice room, make. They really tried to help us but when you come in to a room, the toilet and sink need to work. People really demand this of the hotel they stay at and on the third attempt to make the toilet work properly they switched our room. Our travel companion's a/c wasn't working either. The place doesn't need to look Ritz, but it does need to function. Sorry Tremont, I think you intend to do right by your customers. Good luck.
Had a meeting at Ditka's. Great staff, comfortable room, quiet. Great location. Enjoyed Ditka's radio show too!
Great location, but the whole is a little worn out.
Nothing I've never stayed at some hotels like this!! No warm water for shower!! We reported the problem to front desk, and they said they would fix it, if not, they can change room for us. After we got back to hotel at night, they told us it's fixed. When I turned on the water, it was too cold to take a shower!!! And they even told us we cannot change room because all rooms were full! That's ridiculous. Definitely don't book this hotel.
Had some water in one area of the carpet next to the bed. Not sure how it got there
Staff was very nice and helpful. Never did we feel like we were bothering them with questions. The site was clean, well maintained. I would stay there again. The location is great if u are a tourist without a vehicle. We used the bus for everything. It is near the bus lines. Great hotel.
My overall stay was great!
Unexpected personal communication, services, everything top end. Technology and use of it to make the most of your stay. Very accommodating for our Shitzu. Great location. Room Service was as expected for similar hotels. Pricey, Ave quality, the usual limited items. Wouldn't take much to provide better then expected.
From check in everyone was very nice. We were going for a short trip to another city in the US and were going to stay again at Talbott before heading home. We didn't want to carry one bag & a set of golf clubs so asked if we could leave it behind. Talbott was very understanding and stored it till return. All hotels do it but the attitude of the staff at Talbott made the difference. ..
This was our second stay at the Talbott. It has a great location, the rooms are large, and the staff is welcoming and efficient. We particularly like the cozy parlor areas with fireplaces. There was nothing we did not like.
Pretty much everything....very boutique...great staff....room maintenance five stars...great location No complaints
I liked almost everything about the hotel. The room was great, the day staff was great, the location is better than several in the area we stayed at in the past. Room amenities were also very good. The female employee who checked us out in the morning acted liked she was bothered by having to leave the rear office to deal with us. She was sullen and sighed and didn't even look up as I talked to her. She is NOT a good employee to have at this wonderful hotel.
We loved the location and the staff Never received maid service without calling for the three days we stayed there. Disappointed I had to pay $4 for coffee in the morning. Should have a coffee bar out early in the lobby. Would be nice to have a fitness room in the hotel.
Large Rooms, Great beds The restaurant was small with limited options but it appears they are renovating.
Very nice staff and great location It was perfect
Personal service. They actually get to know your name. You sort of feel a bit like family. They care about your stay. Were willing to go the extra bit to make our time there great. Thanks for a fabulous trip!
Great staff, very helpful and friendly
The hotel staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was special. I will definately be returning
