Cleanliness of the room was a plus! Very easy and comfortable place to stay... minutes from Asilomar Beach. Complimentary breakfast was meager, and by 8:30 AM, most things were out and needed to be replenished. Staff probably would have replenished, but a little bit of spilled syrup on the floor disrupted their attention to customer service. Several guests (including me) stood around, hoping that they'd restock the breakfast area, but they never did as they scurried (somewhat senselessly) to find someone to mop the floor. They could easily have attended to their guests on hand at the same time.
convenient location the unit had a gas leak and we woke up at 3am with a headache, they changed the room in the middle of the night, but it was a huge inconvenience, the new room the heater didnt work well
The area, peaceful and seanic. The area it is in
Away from tourist areas. Very peaceful. Needs some renovation.
The views were excellent. Proximity to other attractions was a plus. Second day breakfast had no meat items.
Perfect for families with young kids and dogs. Five minutes from Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Roe. Just around the corner from 17 Mile Drive gate. Convenient parking. Rooms and resort dated and a bit run down. Could be a little cleaner. Continental breakfast area overcrowded and toasters not all working. Night front desk clerk not very friendly.
Rooms are upgraded and very nice, great location, pleasant staff. The "Lodge" is in one location across the street from the picturesque "Cottages". The "Lodge" rooms are more of a typical Motel, with upstairs rooms and downstairs rooms (thus neighbors can be noisy if you are downstairs). Cottages are the pics you see and are beautiful, if you are staying there, which can be misleading as there are no two double bed rooms in the cottages. All two bed rooms are in lower level in the "Lodge". What really upset us is the two levels of service. In the "Cottages" there is a beautiful main dining area for meals/wine/fire pits, but you can't use it if you are staying in the "Lodge" rooms. The "Lodge" rooms get a very cramped continental breakfast that would be sub-par for a Super 8.
The location Very poor wifi, and poor phone service. Breakfast was very minimal without much selection.
Perfect space for us. A little balcony which was nice because we have a one-year-old that goes to bed at 7:30. Short walk to the coast and out of the way of the touristy business of Monterey. Only like three chairs at the pool. Sliding doors to balcony very stubborn.
It was very charming with the cemetery and light house within walking distance. Shower doors and floor tile could use some Tilex
Cute room, the room was clean. The back of our room was facing a cemetery. And the landscape hadn't been maintained for quite sometime.
we had deer right in front of our patio door! And the grounds were nice. The beds were also comfortable. The free wifi was easy to use too. The location is great. Our patio sliding door didn't have a screen so when we opened the door for ventilation I noticed a couple of mosquitoes. And when exploring the cemetery that our room faced I noticed that other rooms in our building had screens on their doors. The room also had a weird smell when we first got there. while the sheets were clean the carpet had several stains and there were a lot of scratches and marks on the walls. And considering the price and how easy it would be to cover them with touch up paint, I was disappointed with the quality...not to mention our room was described as having a fireplace and ours did not.
The room was nice and spacey. The fireplace was a nice addition even though we didn't use it. It's a good location to see things in Monterey bay, walking or driving. The breakfast is a good deal. We tried to check in and was told our room wouldn't be ready for 30-45 minutes. They suggested we come back or wait. No explanation was given and there were absolutely no apologies or signs of inconvenience. They only gave us 3 towels for the room and when we asked for more because we were going to the pool it seemed super inconvenient for them or like it wasn't allowed. Be aware of the mosquitoes in the area. We left the door open and a lot got in the room. Be aware the space behind the hotel is a cemetery.
Reviews of this property are rather unfair. It is well kept and the room was very nice and clean. It appears to be recently updated. It does back up to a cemetery but that didn't bother us and provided for a view of the grazing deer. Internet worked well and the fire-pit was a great place to relax. The breakfast was cold, tasteless and for the most part empty trays of food were offered. Rubber egg frisbees, cold under cooked potatoes and slimy oatmeal. Bring your own breakfast! Other than the breakfast things were good.
It was so cozy and felt homey. I did not want to leave. Very clean and just overall an awesome stay That i did not stay longer
We had a wonderful time! Very close to the beach and Monterey! Pacific grove is such a beautiful area They charged me a different rate for the second night. When I booked on booking.com it get me a flat rate
The inn was a very nice motel that had better than expected decor and a very fair room rate. The location is in a quite residential neighborhood just a block from the ocean and a couple of blocks to the lovely downtown Pacific Grove
Location, convenience, privacy in cottage everything was good
Clean room. Breakfast as described and plentiful. Good location. Pool and hot tub were not very clean
Well worth the money, and what a fabulous rate they have for bring practically beachfront! Very accommodating and helpful. Great breakfast too!! That we only stayed for one night! Can't wait to go back and stay longer.
There was little positive regarding the stay other than the fact that it was short A disappointing experience. Our worst choice during a three week vacation in USA. They moved us just after check in following an issue with wifi to a smaller room with no refund. We continued to raise our issues with reception but were told that decisions were above the receptionist's pay grade. Poor value for money.
Great place. Awesome rooms.
Great, friendly staff. Very accommodating. Room was much nicer than expected. Great location.
good location. The rooms were small , smelled like cigerette smoke in a non-smoking room(they would not give us another room) -my girlfiend is allergic ! not good. The view outside our window was a bunch of construction supplies thrown behing our building. The shower never got hot. I was trying to do something special for my soon to be wife. She was mad/unhappy our entire trip. -unsatisfactory!!!
Stayed for one night. Loved the amazing location, how clean and spacious the room was, and the comfortable beds. Didn't care much for the cafe employee, who was rude and forgetful.
Fantastic location on Monterey coast, relaxed and quiet atmosphere, deer roaming on property would like a/c in rooms, or fans at least
Conference grounds were gorgeous, lots of little walking trails and directly across from the ocean. My room had poor air circulation and was always way too hot. Blinds on the bathroom window did not close properly and the windows didn't have screens on them. There were also 2 or 3 lamp posts just outside my bedroom window, meaning I had to deal with lots of light pollution when trying to sleep. Site has open wi-fi, but it is unavailable in most conference rooms. Most food and services on site are decent, but rather overpriced.
It reminded us of the Yosemite Flair. Coming from Sweden it was just outstanding!
I loved the grounds- they were beautiful That we we're put in the wrong room at first but they corrected it
The location next to the Asilomar State Beach is outstanding! Yet just a 10 minute drive to Monterey and 20 minutes to Carmel.
That the nice wooden houses were scattered around a big tranquille naturegarden along the seaschore. Fine food. Free parking. Dining at shared tables.
Our family loves Asilomar... It's beautiful. Have a hearty breakfast, go for a walk at the state beach, shoot a game for pool in the lodge and your just five minutes from Monterey Bay aquarium. Simple rooms, but the location is with a million.
Near the ocean wonderful walking trails. Lot of fun for families, and couples too. The older rooms lack insulation and have small beds.
Excellent service Noisiest hotel in Monterey
Friendly staff I thought booking a hotel right next to the water that I could be hearing waves in the tranquility of the evening. Instead I hear cars and foot traffic because our room is all the way back and faces the garage. This hotel was almost three times the cost of any equivalent hotel if it wasn't next to the waves I didn't get to hear.
Liked how we could purchase 2 day aquarium tickets for the same price. That was very convenient. I didn't need a mini bar in he room. But would of liked a microwave and mini fridge.
I really loved the location !!! And the beds are comfort , lobby was nice . Jacuzzi closes at 10:30 even on weekend :(
The location was great. Right in the middle of Cannary Row. The pool was small.
Great location, helpful staff. All around nice place to stay in Monterey.
staff is amazing, the room was perfect and you can't beat the location at one block from the aquarium.
You can't beat the location- just a block away from the Monterrey Bay Aquarium and right on Cannery Row. Staff was all very nice and the facilities were top notch. The restaurant was not pricey and not very good. This is a small complaint, as the view was outstanding and there are plenty of better places to eat within easy walking distance. Would have been nice if wifi was included with room.
The location It was no better than a holiday express, but much more expensive. Beds were miserably uncomfortable.
Lovely location right in the heart of Cannery Row and on the waterfront. This is not an inexpensive hotel but let's face it this is an InterContinental brand not a Motel 6. If you want to splurge this is a good choice however if you don't need a waterfront view and stay in the connected bldg. across the street you can get a room with a fireplace for less. I found this hotel to be relaxing and the staff helpful. Even without a waterfront room they have a large deck area looking out into Monterey Bay where you can sit in front of a fire pit with your friends or by yourself and sip your favorite beverage and enjoy the view and some down time from busy Cannery Row.
This was a great location within walking distance of phenomenal dining and wine tasting rooms. Room was exceptional, the service excellent and the spa personnel accommodating. First deep tissue massage I ever tapped out for a slightly lesser pressure. We will return over and over again. You have to stay here when in Monterrey! Nothing
Nice rooms, and great restaurant attached to hotel with an extensive wine menu
This place is amazing. Although ostensibly it doesn't look over the top, it is a quietly classy place. Our receptionist, Tiana, helped us throughout our stay and she is the sweetest and most accommodating representative (although everyone we met just went over the top, from the concierge to the bellhops to Ryan the cars concierge). The rooms are huge. They easily fit all of the stuff for our 8 month old with tons of room to spare. His packnplay was no issue at all. Everything is very clean and it was quiet and relaxing. We ordered room service , and it was pricey as expected, but the food was DELICIOUS! I doubt we would have found better food elsewhere - the crab cake Eggs Benny was delicious! We checked out and had our car brought around (valet parking is surprisingly included in the resort fee) and Ryan, our car concierge , told us if sightseeing (we were headed to the aquarium), to feel free to leave the car there, no problem, till 5. That was really nice and we did not have to worry about parking. Overall this is right on the end of cannery row and is apparently about a 10 minute walk from Fisherman's Wharf as well (we didn't have a chance to get down there). You can't beat the location, the customer service, or the amenities here. We would only stay here when coming back. Thank you!! Nothing!
Very clean & well appointed. Nice live evening music. Convenient peet's coffee on premises. Nice outdoor firepit and beautiful "plaza area" / patio for all to use....very open-air views of the bay. Spa facilities did not accomodate the numbers of people using, it very well. Overall, hotel was a bit over the top for our needs, and I hate always having to figure out tips without feeling like a cheapskate, but I guess that's just part of "high livin". On the whole ,staff was extremely understanding & accommodating of a few problems that arose and were more than fair in resolving them.
Geat ocean view , nice evening music , the staff was helpful , we love the restaurant , we love the valet parking . and the price of the room includes it The price of the ocean view rooms is very expensive , and it doesn't include the breakfast
the bed was very comfortable charge of $25 resort fee.
Staff The price!
The bed room was very confortable and the spa was good the valet parking was a little expensive, the resteraunt was only average in food quality and expensive for what you got.
Excellent customer service by all staff.
We enjoyed the spa and the attentive staff. Please write at least 15 words Valet
Location Room service
Very nice decor in room and everywhere. Staff is friendly and helpful. Nice view of Monterey Bay from lobby and lower level lounge. WI-FI is free and works well. Expensive! Breakfast not included, 10% extra tax, and $25 extra for 2 queen beds instead of the default 1 king size bed. Only one night table. Parking is valet only, front bumper came back with a dent. I prefer to self-park. Getting my car back took 10 to 30 minutes. Driver expects to get a tip each time. There is a spa but it is not free. Someone placed a couple of calls from our room, I had to prove they were not mine.
I liked it's location and convience. Bed uncomfortable and gave me backache.
Beautiful hotel, great location. Comfortable beds. Rooms need maintenance. Lock didn't work and needed to be replaced. Phone wasn't working properly.
Close to everything downtown and you're right next to Fisherman's Wharf. Staff were professional and very accommodating. Spa services were great. Construction was going on outside for their conference center so you have to walk around it a little bit but inside you couldn't hear it from where I was staying along Pacific Street.
I love the decor of the bathrooms and the bedding. That the elevators were broken.
Location and price
I liked the overall comfort of the hotel. I did not like the service. I asked for a bellhop to help take my bags to the car. I waited for about 25 minutes and decided to take the bags myself.
Price Outdated hotel.
When I'm paying $1400 to stay 4 nights and get told that they can't possibly give me complimentary wifi or breakfast or ANYTHING... it's annoying to say the least. Interested in squeezing out every last cent possible while offering less in terms of amenities than most other hotels that are a fraction of the price.
Amenities and style of room During my stay there was construction being done to the hotel, normally that wouldn't bug me except they put me right next where it was and since I sleep with the windows open, constructure woke me up super early in the morning. Even with the windows closed I could still here it. I was on my anniversary with my way during that day and it Kindof put a damper on my experience, especially since I paid over $200 each night I was there.
-Clean room -Big and fluffy towels -Ceiling fan and portable oscillating floor fan -Plenty of drinking glasses -Condiments and Keurig Coffee/Tea -The last room had bathrobes. This one did not. -No microwave / no access to microwave -Toilet paper rather thin -No other complaints
Location was good, close to the wharf. Our one and a half year old daughter found a pill (presumably from a previous guest) in the room and ate it. We rushed her to the ER and thank goodness she was okay. Guests with kids should be aware of this danger.
The guest rooms are large and nicely appointed. The bed is comfortable. Breakfast is very nice in Jacks restaurant. The entire staff is quite accommodating. We've stayed here many times in the past and will continue to stay here. Our room was in a noisy location--on the second floor overlooking an open area where people walked, sat, rode bikes, played music and generally enjoyed the outdoors. The windows were not double-paned and the room was noisier than we would have liked. The bathroom was remodled with a lovely marble countertop--unfortunately it was rather tall for me to use (I'm a 4'11" woman.)
my kids loved the pool and hot tub.
Power was out, and even though it's not their fault, I wish the staff did more to make us feel welcome.
The grounds are very unique and allow for areas to relax outside. It is also close to Fisherman's Warf and the downtown area. I didn't like the fact that I kept finding items left by the previous guest in to room (i.e. wrappers, tags, debris, etc.). For what was charged, I would have expected more for breakfast. A Holiday Inn Express has a more comprehensive breakfast.
Location was perfect. Close to all restaurants. Noise level from above room and street noise. Also, pictures on website make this hotel look amazing when it's not.
noise from street was awful
the property was nice, and appearance above average. The location was excellent, and adjacent to the historical downtown and the wharf. A mile to the aquarium. My concerns were with continental breakfast, which was included, and very inferior, with stale croissants, etc. also stingy with towels and linens in room. Silly.
my boyfriend and i loved the shower.. water got hot really fast and amazing water pressure. Our room was a lot larger than we had anticipated, which was great. It almost felt like a tiny home during our 4 night stay. We also loved how close it was to the downtown area and lots of good restaurants. Only 1 mile from the aquarium, we walked there and back. overall had a wonderful time at this hotel, we even stayed an extra night. I didn't like the continental breakfast. the first morning was ok, bagels muffins and fruit with coffee and juice was nice. But by the second morning i was over it. More variety would have been nice for the price per night at the hotel.
Very roomy, clean and close to fisherman's wharf. Walking distance to several restaurants.
booked the suite and hence was quite spacious for a family of three. breakfast was continental but had some hot stuff like oatmeals and was ok to take back to room and eat with the family. Parking was extra which was not revealed till we checked in. a stiff $20 per day per car. which given other hotels were not charging, felt like nickel and diming
Rooms are very warm, inviting, and comfortable. Would appreciate it if you would install a Tesla charger (electric car) in your garage during your renovations. Tesla will give the wall charger to you upon request, you just have to install.
it was a very nice room and very spacious. It was expensive and did not have air conditioning.
Great location, friendly staff. We stayed as a family and our daughter loved all the beautiful flowers. Easy walking distance to the beach and Downtown Monterey.
We were pleasantly surprised with the gorgeous room that featured high vaulted wooden cross-hatched ceilings, a romantic fireplace and balcony, two showers, a comfy couch with huge wall mounted tv, and a cute little kitchenette/dining area. It was super close to the wharf which is a huge plus. They charged me for the bottle of water I took in the fridge so be careful. It's a trap!
It was pretty spacious and the front desk girl was really nice. Room wasn't the cleanest, and the walls were really thin, you could hear everything going on next door.
The room was beautifully clean & presentable. Unfortunately we missed the wine & cheese evening but we were welcomed with a glass of wine even though we had missed the required time. A nice touch
turn out i was issue a room which smell dog, clerk seeing that I didn't have a pet or even ask if i had one issue me one, When we checked in we where surprised with a 15.00 a day parking charge. When checking out I had told the same receptionist about dog smell and noisy traffic side of the room, he apologized and remove one of the 15.00 parking fee. Did question him if he new I didn't have a pet why did he issue me a room for who have pets
Cleanliness, convenient walking distance to Canary Row and Money Bay Aquarium, restaurants, ocean...awesome location Street noise was a bit much, i would request a balcony room, that's the only reason it isn't five stars across the review
Very close to everywhere we needed to be. Fireplaces in each room, large, clean comfortable rooms. Free wi-fi, breakfast and wine/cheese hour in the afternoon. Great staff, secure parking. Rooms facing the street are a bit noisy. No minibar, so we pucked up a few waters, snacks and sodas to put in room fridge.
Clean begging and towels. Good location, big room. Convenient parking in the basement (additional fee). Breakfast is fair, wine/cheese time is complementary and pleasant. We had a room on the first level and the room above had squeaky floors so we could hear when guests staying above waking in their room. This could be really annoying especially at nights. Patio is tiny and not private as offered.
I really liked the afternoon wine tasting - not necessarily for the wine but for the snacks for the kids which made dinner less stressful. Convenient walk to aquarium.
I do not know how it is that this place is getting such a high rating... They obviously pay people (or give rooms away) in exchange for a positive review. The stay here was equivalent to Motel 6 experience at best. I won't ever stay here again
- good continental breakfast - good location (walking distance from Cannery Row) - clean - accommodated an early check-in for us - friendly staff - stuffy room (smell) - housekeeping left dirty towels in the room (on the floor) - bed is SUPER soft (not comfortable for me)
Good location, quiet, balcony, big bed room and accomodations such as fridge, coffee maker...
wireless/ Wi-fi connection
location is excellent. rooms were big and clean and well equipped. the staff is nice and helpful. they did everything to make us feel comfortable. nice happy hour and breakfast. room for breakfast to small to accomdate the guests
Our shower didn't drain properly and after several calls and waiting it was never resolved.
The Rosedale Inn is understated when looking at it from the outside but the interior is all very modern and high quality. The rooms look as if they've just been upgraded because the bathroom has a Jacuzzi tub and all contemporary features. The setting is also great--wonderful wooded area.
Mildew in the shower, peeling wallpaper in the bathroom, dirty remote control, filthy doors, bugs (e.g. tick) in the room.
The hotel was fantastic. The view from the forth floor spa was outstanding. The hotel is located just off cannery row to be quiet and comfortable, but we'll witching walking distance to all attractions. They need a restruant or step up breakfast.
Great location, beautiful room...would stay again for sure!!!
No crowds at the end of Cannery Row, and close enough to walk to any style restaurant or pub, shopping, etc. Very slightly disappointed there weren't Bluetooth speakers to plug into for music, however the soothing sounds of the ocean water washing against the rocks below our balcony was much more enjoyable!
Great location I would definitely stay here again!
We heard the barking of the sea lions the first night - all night. The second night we were prepared for it. Charming!! The buildings surrounding the hotel were creepy to walk by - especially at night.
Location and the seals in the background hiding the bowling alley that was in a room above us. Bad plumbing. When a bath was taken, the drain took forever and would occasionally burp up some black junk that stunk. Had to rinse the tub out after it drained because of the smell.
Location, nice room, great staff Mandatory $10 fee for a five year old to get a $2 crummy breakfast -we ended up paying for a breakfast at the Monterey Inn down the street instead. The place needs a power washing! Gull excrement all over the place and not enough nets to prevent them from hanging out to poop
Hotel was a nice location next to the quieter side of Cannery Rd. So we thought the construction across the street ruined the Bay watching during the day, We were gone most of the day. But other than that everything was wonderful!
The location was awesome
We enjoyed everything about the Monterey Bay Inn. It was right on the water and was close to all the shops on cannery row. The room was beautiful and very clean. We will stay here again in the future. N/a
The Monterey Bay Inn has great bay views and is located centrally to downtown, the wharf, and Cannery Row - within easy walking distance. No report.
I enjoy staying here...hot tube on top floor where you can see Monterey. Comfortable stay and always clean. Definitely staying here again.
The valet was super nice and helpful. The young woman checking me in was friendly as well. I was happy with my stay
Location was great! 1. Your ad said I had two options for this type of room: City view or Ocean view. I clicked on city view. In reality, I got a room on the second floor and a view of the building next door and the Subway down the street. VERY misleading ad and application form for your room. 2. I was given the option of a King or Double. The room was for my partner and I so I was hoping for a King. I've never received a double booking as a couple but this time I did. I called front desk to change my room when I got upstairs and they said I never specified King. Your website doesn't give a very obvious space for me to specify King though. 3. The room I was placed in was next to the weight room. It was loud because when people work out, they lick to drop weights which makes a lot of noise. This did not making sleeping very easy. 4. I tried paying for the internet but kept getting error messages. I'm good with computers and I'm certain this was a network issue and not a user error on my part. In short, I didn't get the room I expected, it was difficult sleeping at night bc we were so close to the weight room, there was no internet, and I don't understand how the front desk said I should have specified King bed when your online app form doesn't give me a space for that. I won't be staying at the Marriot any more in the future.
As we were checking in, we were told that we had signed up for two queen beds. As this was the one night in over 4 years that we got to spend together without her kids, I had made sure when I reserved the room it was for a king bed. After 10 minutes of negotiating, the lady at the front desk assigned is to a wheelchair accessible room with the king bed. Paying $400+ for the night, we were not very happy with the type of room we were assigned to. The bed itself was very uncomfortable. The mattress was very cheap and sagging on each side. The pillows were made of practically nothing but air. To add to the lovely stay, at 1:00 am we were awoken to the the fire alarm going off and loud flashing blinking lights in our room. The entire hotel had to evacuate and after the fireman came to turn the alarm off, we went back to our room. It was safe to say at this point we wouldn't get much sleep. As we complained to the front desk about our stay, they apologized and offered nothing to us. I will NEVER stay at this Marriott again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Centrally located allowing us to explore Monterey It is tired.
Not able to park my own car
I loved the promptness of front desk to my every request.
My favorite in Monterey. The entire staff is delightful and made us feel welcome. Karen made our stay perfect. We did not turn on the TV; Sit in the window seat over the ocean, light the fire, and enjoy. Everything is perfect. The only suggestion? A hot tub on the roof among the beautiful potted plants would be ideal.
Room was a little cramped.
Views of the sea and wildlife. My wife adored the room decor Smoke from other peoples fires did come into our room, but not much of an issue. Didn't like paying for internet- most places this is now free. I also found out that we paid quite a bit more for our room than others staying at the same time (I was upstairs waiting for the lift when the receptionist was calling someone to advise that a guest was disputing how much they were billed (the amount was considerably less than we were paying))
The fireplace was amazing. The service was top notch and they seemed to really care about the people. A bottle of wine was placed in our room when we were out because they overheard us say we were on our honeymoon. The bed was the best I've ever slept on in a hotel and the pillows were like little clouds. Nothing this place was wonderful
Personal attention that was given to me.
Love, Love, Love the location! Staff is excellent. Appreciate the daily delivery of complimentary breakfast to the room. Room 308 is great. Over heard other guests complain of smoky smell in their room coming from unused fireplace. We didn't experience that.
Having a sauna & fireplace in our room! Help and friendliness of the staff The bathroom was cleaned good enough when we returned from an outing.
I enjoyed the room. It had a fireplace, it was right on Cannery Row and was right on the ocean. It was a lovely old building with lots of character and charm. lots of birds throughout the night. Next time I would not sleep with the windows open like I did this time.
Relaxed friendly luxury atmosphere.
The check in person was helpful and friendly. The check out person was defensive. Room is too crowded with stuff. Lack of space for luggage and yourself. We were on first floor where they recommend locking windows plus people could see in. Two small windows on the parking/alley side did not provide enough air considering there was no A/C. Also very noisy in the morning on that side. Add to that was the fact the screens were ripped. TV had a cheap, crappy remote. The location is only okay. Price too high for the product.
Clean. Nice nice room.
I was looking for the best hotel for the most reasonable price that accepted dogs. This was the one that I found using Hotels.com and Yelp and other resources. They honored my reservation made late last year and I was able to bring my dog. That was really great. The rooms were very nice, very clean. It was an excellent value for the money. Some people complained about the noise but I did not notice any problems with that. Staff was very nice and allowed me to keep my trailer parked in the lot while my boat was on the water. That allowed me flexibility during my visit. The front parking lot was very tight and very full. The back lot was not accessible due to construction but I assume that would free help once construction ceased. They no longer accept dogs. I would go back again if they allowed dogs still. In fact, it would be the only place I would go while staying there. The fridge is a little small but many food options were nearby so storing food is not really highly necessary.
We often stay in Monterey and we very much like this place. It's location is great if you don't mind walking a little, and the rooms are nice, clean and well-equipped. The amenities are small -- workout room, pool, etc... but when in Monterey there isn't a reason to stay at the hotel anyway. During peak season, the rooms are a little pricey here
-We were allowed to check-in early (11am!) -The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. -The fireplace was very romantic and made the room toasty. -The outdoor pool was heated and clean.
Modern room update. Extra sink/ mirror outside of bathroom which is always useful. Very clean. Comfortable bed and bedding. Fireplace which would be lovely in cool weather. Centrally located. The safe in our room would not open and my things were in it. The hotel staff could not fix it although the maintenance guy was able to get it open. The manager gave us a voucher for the restaurant which was appreciated. Small room size. No air conditioning which I realize they don't need very often, but it was quite warm when we were there.
Staff was fantastic- just very accomodating, friendly and really made an effort to make the stay enjoyable. Can't say enough about the staff. I was sitting reading on their pretty outdoor patio and they offered me a glass of wine, even though the bar wouldn't be open for another few hours. Room was really great- spacious, updated fixtures and hardware (felt like a swanky room), and without any ambient noise at all. Plush soft towels, comfortable bedding- the whole experience just made us both feel like "ok, we're staying at a NICE hotel." We were on the second floor facing the street and really didn't get any street noise at all either. If we're ever back in the area, we will definitely stay here again.
Pool, hot tub I paid $200 for basically a motel with a cuter looking front. The place seems like it needs a fix up and not just cosmetic. I've NEVER stayed in a hotel with no a/c..you should at least advertise that there's no a/c. We heard every footstep of the guests above us. I'd never stay again
The location was good not great. Close to stuff but still a bit of a walk. I was happy with the value. Comfortable room and clean. It looks like the place has recently been renovated. A bigger pool and hot tub would be nice.
Clean, convenient, affordable, friendly, quiet. It's no longer the Vagabond. It's the Munras Inn. That was pretty confusing! The free "breakfast" is not real. It's a 7-11 pastry, Sunny Delight (which is a soft drink), and a piece of fruit.
Location to area attractions. The beds were tooooooo firm and not very comfortable.
the things we didn't like was the carpet in the room ... waso ld and not too much clean and there was not a room for having the breakfast.
Very clean room, and good value for the dollar There wasn't anything that I did not like about the room
Clean room, everything works, nice fireplace, close to downtown, courteous & helpful staff, great value Parking spaces are adequate but a bit tight
employees were friendly, nice location, and David Doty was really helpful even though i arrived at 2:00 a.m. n/a
Clean, reasonable priced rooms
Excellent value for money. Located close to a large shopping centre with restaurants and cinemas. Only a couple of minutes drive (or possible to walk) to the centre of town and the wharf. Large rooms. Basic breakfast. Free parking. Good base for exploring Monterey,Carmel etc. Check in staff were not overly welcoming.
spacious rooms, very clean, friendly staff
Spacious room, comfortable beds and the convenience of a dining table and chairs. We appreciated being allocated a quiet room, away from the busy road.
Very pleased overall Near perfect...didn't like the pillows but my son loved em. Limited channel selection on tv
Was one of the cheapest hotels in the area. The hotel is dated but if you're not looking for much its quite acceptable.
Easy check in & nice staff. Nothing fancy. Bed was comfortable & room was clean but no air conditioner just a fan which was ok since it wasn't too warm. The breakfast area is in the lobby and was so crowded with no place to sit. Had to dodge many people just to get a bowl of cereal!!
I really liked that their was breakfast in the morning. That the room was clean and that the pool was near the room. I really enjoyed all the plants outside and the balcony. I did not like that when we got their late they were very few options on where to dine and that our heater wasn't working.
I liked the price. Location not bad. Breakfast was hour later than stated at check in. Nothing made this place stick out. It's just a place to sleep. Will stay elsewhere next time.
Staff members were very warm and welcoming and the free breakfast was better than similarly-priced hotels, offering cereal, mini muffins, fruit coffee and even (really good) do-it-yourself waffles. Our room came standard with an extremely large king-sized bed. An added bonus was the mini fridge - great for keeping our camping groceries cold as we traveled through California. Only real downside was that while taking a shower, I noticed that there were stray hairs on one of the walls - remnants from the previous guest(s). Not a huge deal to us as the rest of the room was spotless and we were staying less than 24h, but a bit off-putting nonetheless.
Great location, decent hotel for the price The floors didn't seem like they were vacummed.
Did not feel safe there. The bed spread and drapes were dirty, no place to plug in coffe maker, lamp was broken and other lamps had missing light bulbs. Bathroom had malfunctioning shower head and tub mat not clean. Continental breakfast was not very healthy.
The man that checked us in was very helpful. He let us know about the special package they offered for the Aquarium. Another worker told my boyfriend to put out his cigatette when he was outside. We wete aware that all of the rooms were non-smoking but didn't understand why he coyldn't smoke outside.
Nothing Everything, rude rude rude manager and very dirty and daited, maids were super loud , never stay there again. Worst place we've ever stayed at. I can't believe there are decent reviews of this dump!!!!!!
Location is convenient close to frreeway access, fisherman wharf, and shopping malls. Check in was done rather quickly. When we needed assistant, Inn staff was quickly to respond. Our bathroom door was not able to close, lock was not usable, and the heater/cooler was not working. There was a video tape player but was not working. No dvd player to use.
Clean, sizable. Good location for quick access to downtown Monterey, Carmel-by-the-sea, Big Sur, etc. The internet was surprisingly fast, and free! The microwave and fridge were also quite convenient. Noise was the biggest issue: the ceilings creaked a lot every time the people above us moved around. It felt like we could hear everything they were doing. If you're thinking about staying here, definitely try and get a 2nd-floor room. Since our room was very near a busy street, we also heard a lot of noise from traffic and passing cars.
Our hotel room was very clean and neat, late arrival was not a problem, and it is partially renovated. We skipped the breakfast though, so I don't know about that. The town center is a 5 minute drive, or a nice walk from the hotel. Overall, great value for money. I would be happy to stay here again.
Absolutely charming historic hotel located in the heart of downtown Monterey! 5 minute drive to the aquarium and a five minute walk to the beach and Fisherman's Wharf. Stayed two nights with our young family with 3 kids, and they loved every bit down to how they folded the napkins and toilet paper prior to our stay. Breakfast was overflowing with ripe strawberries and Boyd's coffee, and the staff dug up a corkscrew to keep and some wine glasses so we could enjoy our bottle from wine country. All in all, wish we could have stayed longer, and very pleased with its prime location and roaring 20's charm. Parking was slightly challenging but we were always able to find some spots on the street.
The Monterey hotel is beautiful located close to everything. Parked our car and walked all weekend. The room was very spacious and romantic. Tub for 2, fireplace and great view. We could hear the seal lions from our bedroom! Elevator is out of order and had to climb to the 4th floor. After a few time this was not so much fun. Reminded me of the Big Bang Theory!
The most polite, friendly, and helpful staff I have encountered at a hotel in awhile. The hotel itself was located in a perfect spot in town with lots of food places and stores close by. The fact the this hotel has such a historic history, being that it is 112 years old, made it all the more fascinating. Loved everything!
clean & quite. great central location! less bulkier furniture in the room so a small table & chair can be accommodated. one can't sit on the bed at all times!!
Location was a block away from the wharf with restaurants and shopping nearby everywhere. Hotel was beautiful with historic architecture and vintage furniture Walls were thin and you could hear your neighbors' movements
The customer service was amazing and the room I picked was smaller than I thought and they upgraded me for free and the new room was amazing and we had a great time there!!! It was close to lots of sites we visited and we had a great trip!!!! I didn't like the stairs and the elevators were far from the room due to the fact that we have to pack a lot because we have a baby but the bell hop helped us and they accommodated our every need!!!
A bit noisy due to street area
The best features of this hotel are the location and the history of the hotel. We enjoyed the bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. The continental breakfast was good. The furniture, while antique and ornate, was large and bulky in the small rooms. It is not a comfortable place to stay, with little space to maneuver around. The television (which was nearly as old as the room itself) was hidden in a wardrobe that couldn't open all the way because of the california king bed. Therefore, only one person laying in bed could actually see the screen. There was no desk or workspace in the room. The hotel acknowledges the paper thin walls and provides guests with earplugs to block out noise from other guests and the streets below. The overall experience at the Monterey Hotel was fine, but I only recommend it because of the location.
The staff were very courteous. The hotel decor and history. There was a farmers market on the street in front of the hotel. There was some minor damage on the bathroom counter. Just an eyesore, nothing major. The tv was old but it worked fine.
It appeared the valet used my car for personal use. Found papers in the front seat of my car not belonging to me when I picked up my car after my stay. Very concerning.
Great location and easy walking to all things Monterey. Old boutique hotel with no provided parking.
The hotel had an excellent location only a short walk from Monterey Bay and the wharf. Although a bit shabby, the hotel has a charming feel. The staff was helpful and friendly. Both the room and bathroom were uncomfortably small. Other than the bed, there was only one small uncomfortable wooden chair to sit on. No microwave or refrigerator was provided. The worst problem was the noise, both day and night, which made it impossible to get a good night's sleep. Between the trash trucks, the squawking sea gulls, the late night party goers, and street construction peace was not to be had. And, because the room was not air conditioned, the windows could not be closed.
