Good location No complementary bottle of water for guest
Location--close to Central Station. The bed was really uncomfortable. I hadn't slept in nearly 24 hours, and I could barely sleep on this bed. The rest of the room served its purpose moderately well, but was in desperate need of a bit of color/an upgrade.
all roung good budget accomodation with neat clean facilities with helpful staff. Close to rail transport a nd walking distance to cbd
Great location Tiles in shower need good scrub, carpet dirty. workmen started renovations at 7am in room next door and woke us up.upon mentioning this to reception at checkout, the person at checkout didn't seem to care
location, to shops/railway station, and efficient reception, courtesy from staff good value for money, for an overnight stay before flying out not to keen on having $50 frozen on our bankcard account
Excellent. Strongly recommended !
Basically, the only good thing about it is that it's in the city centre. It's expensive, ugly, uncomfortable, low quality service and food.
Location The walls were very thin. I could hear other people's t.v.'s, talking on their phones etc. I even had the extraordinary experience of sitting up in bed watching tv and getting a massive bump in the head from the people in the next room hitting the wall. I was pushed forward like when you stop suddenly in traffic! Certainly a first for me!
Very convenient to central station and for the free bus to Circular Quay
Fantastic location, 2 minute walk from Central Station, it was good value for money, in essence, the hotel did what it said on the tin. Room was smaller than I would have liked but for the price, I can't complain too much! N/A
The price was very reasonable and the facility was really good. The location was perfect. It was located in the main street, Gorge St, and it was really convenient. As it is located in the center of the city, there are so many shops around this hotel and I could go and have meals easily.
The location, rooms were of decent size. The elevators were really slow.
The Metro Hotel at the intersection of Pitt and Campbell Street was a good choice for me on holiday while abroad. It's a quick five minute walk to Central, which was very convenient for me because I used only public transport in Sydney. The room was clean and updated. The staff was very helpful when asked a question. The only gripe I have is the hotel charged extra for Wifi.
Despite the location it wasn't noisy.
Value was good. Close to CDB Fridge didn't work. Forced to drink warm beer haha
It is at good location. The room is not very clean and it is rather small.
Lack of information to avoid surprises regarding the facilities and payment of car parking.
The rate, together with the value for money, facilities, cleanliness, friendly staff and central location. Our stay was very pleasant with no areas for critisism.
Breakfast was sufficient. The WiFi internet connection. Rather poor price/performance ratio. No cable TV, i.e. international (news) channels.
The location to city. Under car parking and security. Slow male staff service on arrival even though we were pre booked. Room heating is well below average, almost cold.
Appreciated that room was ready on arrival so check in was allowed early. Friendly staff.
Location. The superior room on level 12 turned out to be fairly nice. The bathroom was adequately clean.
In the city and close to amenities and meeting places. Indifferent front office staff; poor breakfast choices on site.
It was close to the Sydney CBD and Darling Harbour & Mono Rail I left my pillow in the room. Don't suppose you would send it to me? No close by night life except for Jades Bar.
I loved the great location across from Market City with all of it's dining and shopping options. From t-shirt and fresh fruit and vegetable vendor kiosks in the basement to the Food Court and sit-down restaurants upstairs and everything else in between - even a supermarket! The location is also excellent for its access to public transportation and proximity to the CBD while being very quiet. The carpets are really dirty and should be replaced. Also, during my stay of almost two weeks, I had to kill two cockroaches (about 1 cm). The cleaning staff was otherwise diligent in their efforts.
Central position Inefficient staff (no record of prior payment) very noisy room next to lift. Hotel needs to invest in double glazing or sound proofing.
no in room food service
Clean, comfortable and safe room. Well located. The hotel itself and the staff were great. Noise from rubbish truck at 3am one morning was the perfect but unwelcome wake up call... 20 mins worth. Apart from that, noise no problem.
Close to everything in Sydney! Market City to Circular Quay!
Room was clean, good facilities, easy access to interesting parts of Sydney. On the first morning there was no hot water in the shower. This was corrected later in the day.
Very convenient to markets, eating places, transport. Noisy.
Aarons was convenient, clean, comfortable and affordable.
The hotel was walking distance to Chinatown, Darling Harbour, & Circular Quay... N/A
Found the staff very helpful Would like to see brochures in the rooms for different attractions instead of having to use reception for bookings show what your city has to offer
The room was big and included a fridge, hot plate, and "kitchen" sink. My room had a small balcony and nice view of the street. Located in the "Chinatown" area that includes all Asian cultures and excellent food options close by. A little hard to find. I walked by the first time because signage isn't good. I was early; so my room wasn't ready, but that is standard with hotels when you arrive at 9:00 a.m.
Location to entertainment and shopping was unbeatable. 2 bathrooms really made this room. Faulty lifts became a very frustrating experience. On checking out there was only 1 out of 3 lifts operational. Had to wait 20mins to get a lift - thereby making us late for connecting transport home
Air Con didn't work and the staff weren't very friendly
The cleanliness and size of the room; the ease with which our request for two bathrooms was accommodated; the helpfulness of the reception staff; the very central location
wrong room, rude staff, no Satisfaction. Certainly didnt exceed my expectations, will never stay again. nothing, leaving felt good.
As other previous reviews have pointed out, the toilet was almost unusable because of the close proximity of the bathroom wall. The room was almost the dirtiest I've ever stayed in.
Location fantastic. Room size good. Noise was an issue, which meant we had to move rm during the 1st night. Allyn Jenkins
Great hotel, excellent location to central city and the train stations and easy walk to Darling Harbour. Staff extremely friendly and helpful, nice tidy room. Would stay here again if i travel to Sydney :)
Great location, right in the heart of the city. Very easy access to bus, darling harbour and central train station. The kitchenette in the room was very small, was a little difficult preparing meals for four.
The location was perfect. In the middle of town, near all touristic attractions. Unloading suitcases in front of or near the hotel is in daytime almost impossible. Using a nearby unloadingzone resulted in my situation in a fine of A$143,= Also the parking garage used by the hotel is too far away. Internet is available in the hotel, but only one terminal or thu WiFi, a very expensive solution.
We arrived at 6:00, but I checked in at 14:20. It made us feel so tried for the following days. I don't think it deserves the high price.
Nice looking hotel with comfortable bed. Location isn't great if you're not in the mood for chinatown and the extras (wifi, breakfast, parking, etc.) are pretty pricey and can get expensive quick
All other hotels in the area had a 3 night minimum for New Years Eve and Citigate only had 2 nights which fit our travelling schedule. It was close to the CBD and walking distance to Darling Harbour and just a bit further to Circular Quay. The monorail station is at the bottom of the street. We stayed in a King Harbour Open Plan Suite which did not have harbour views but you could still see Darling Harbour attractions and it didn't face into the back of another hotel so the view was good. The food in the hotel bistro was very good value and wide menu choice, the staff were very helpful. The pool is not overly large but adequate with a great spa and has comfortable lounge chairs, the bar was not open on the pool deck whilst we were there. Apparently all hotels charge for parking in Sydney (being from WA I had never come across this before) - Citigate charged $23 per night which when you have paid double for NYE I felt was a bit OTT and should have been included in the room rate. There was no bath in the suite only a shower.
Being close to the city, particularly the momorail, and the markets. Checking in and parking the car could have been more organised.Especially with young children (prams). Exiting the street was differcult.Exitting parking Toll was out of order, with no sign saying so.
The room was set out in a very appealing fashion and the size of the room was very comfortable
Great central location, right near chinatown with beautiful food, walking distance to all activities Stairs at entry no ramp or help with bags!!!
Have more lifts available for check out
Great - once we got settled and knew how to get to and from carpark to hotel lobby etc. Very helpful staff - most pleasant , will definitely return.
It is a nice hotel and location is very convenient. Close to Central Station and China Town with lots restaurants around it. We went there for the concert held in Sydney entertainment centre which is very close to this hotel as well. Recommend for city trip. Fair value for the price i paid but it is not a 4 and half stars hotel. The bathroom is not bright enough and facility is a little bit old. room interior may need some refurbish.
We are close to central sydney & china town, darling harbour Breakfast was average and for the famaly expensive with macas for the kids just oposite
friendly staff, good check out & check in time
Awesome location; close to CBD and Central Station. Surry Hills is a great suburb, lots of amazing cafes and bistros. Very friendly and helpful staff. Thorough room service; the room was left spotless every day. Great room and facilities. The breakfast from Basket Brothers wasn't great. It was grossly overpriced, and didn't taste that great either. I recommend going elsewhere.
Location near train station and buses, light rail, connection to ferry. Staff was relatively friendly and helpful. Exterior of building is dilapidated and the wood and brick structure is giving off very pungent rotting smell. This is especially noticeable when you open the window. Room is very small. The bed took 60% of the room space. Almost no space left to place luggages. Room vacuumed once every 3 days, and there were dusts everywhere, especially when there was construction work going on leaving dusts and particals everywhere. From elevator to the room, must pass a flight of stairs causing high difficulty for moving heavy luggages. Floor was slopping unevenly between elevator and stairs, a distance of maybe 10 feet in length. The price is way too high for such poor facility, even though they renovated the rooms and bath. Instead of having spring hing at the door jing-joint, they place a lever spring at the door top. And the right closet door bangs on the hing, damaging the closet, and eventually the lever-spring for the front door. All and all, very unpleasant experience for such an expensive place.
Great location. Close to many things and to convenient transportation. Room was quiet and comfortable.
The staff were lovely, the room worked well for our trip.
Good location and fair value for money Room could do with a bit of an upgrade. The restaurant was more like a canteen and the seating area around the bar could do with improving.
The layout of the room with the wardrobe separating the bathroom The staff offered only transactional service - and ordinary facilities, a striped duvet doesn't qualify as luxury! For three people we had just one tiny sachet of coffee each...
very good sized room overlooking busy crossroads and very convenient for buses to all sights.
The hotel had all the facilities you would expect from a midrange city hotel. very friendly and helpful staff.
Great value, very good location, friendly/helpful staff TV reception not great. Room good for price, but nothing fancy.
reception staff not very helpful when asked about general questions about the city and tours available, however we sorted this out ourselves
The staff were extremely helpful and responsive when we had a small problem in our room. A great location!
The cleanliness and the vibrant colour of the settings which makes it lively.
Teh hotel was very good and central. The staff were attentative and helpful
good location and best mordern desingn room .
The location is very convenient. It took about 40 minutes to walk to the Opera House to see a show and about 10 minutes to get to Chinatown. I found the staff to be incredibly rude. The maintenance staffer verbally insulted and harassed my mother when our WiFi became disconnected. The WiFi cost an additional $5/day. The walls in the hotel are very thin and you can hear everything next door.
The big dude with the beard on reception was great, really helpful and upbeat The springs in the mattress dig into your back and wake you up :(
Beds are awful. It's hurt to sleep on them.
The room was small, dirty. The entire place was horrible, food on the floor in hall ways, bathrooms were in an awfull state
The location was excellent to explore the city. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rates were very reasonable. All this makes this place ideal for young travelers on a tight budget. The rooms, toilets and showers could have been a bit cleaner.
The location was great. The staff were friendly. I will be there again should need arises. Thanks Cannot think of any.
the option of a private room having to pay to rent a towel was ridiculous. bathrooms were not very nice. room smelled terrible.
Convenient location Noisy, drunk, stale, dirty bathrooms half showers not working, cells rather than rooms, staff lacking initiative. A drunk idiot kick-slammed my door open at 5 in the morning because the girl across the floor wouldn't sleep with him. An institution not an hotel. I left before end of my stay even though I had already paid.
It was a fun place to stay, people were great and very local to everything! Everything was fine, impovements to showers and tolets would be better!
I liked staff service and attention Men Bathroom with problems and the bad smell from the kitchen's restaurants.
Very hard to answer because there was not much to like. I suppose I would say it was centrally located Everything! First let me say two words, Bed Bugs! Yes that's right, the place has bed bugs. None of the rooms have power points in them so there is extension cords strewn all over the hall ways, which is a definite health and safety issue. The bathrooms were filthy, the kitchen was overcrowded and dirty and if the staff stopped dancing around thinking they are gods gift and turn the music down then they might be able to actually serve customers
The hotel is located at great location, very near to the famous Chat Thai restaurant, near to Market city and China Town. It's also a short walk to Queen Victoria Building, Town Hall station, Central station. U are able to walk to Sydney Opera House too. Air conditioner/ heater is a plus. Also, the price is very affordable in such a good location. The room's facilities is very poor, everything is old and not good looking at all. There is no towel in the toilet so make sure u prepare one yourself. The family room we are staying in is ok but the beds are very uncomfortable. It's a hotel for backpackers so families with kids would not feel completely comfortable here.
Central location - everything in walking distance. If you're on a budget and in party-mode then this is the place for you. What set me off is the cleanliness & smells of our room - very unpleasant. We had an ensuite bathroom and well... you get what you pay for.
The location was great for getting around the city - very noisy in that part of town though. Well ... it was what it was ... a cheap place to stay. Pretty rough and loud. More suited to younger backpackers out to party.
hanging in the lounge area, meeting new people.
This hostel was in a good location. I asked for a 4-person female room and was pleasantly surprised when I found out that the room had our own private bathroom. That was awesome. If you are of the crowd that does not go out all night to party, I wouldn't recommend this hotel. There are many people at this hotel who like to party and you may be sharing a room with them. Other than that, the staff is great and the rooms are great, it's just for the younger, louder crowd.
nothing insalubrious rooms
The location was brilliant. The staff were very helpful and approachable. The cost for a fa mily room was very reasonable. The beds were rock hard!
they had a female only dorm with a private bathroom. The beds were extremely uncomfortable - it felt like i was sleeping on the actual springs without covering! The light for the bathroom was not working and when i confronted the reception staff the couldn't replace the bulb because it was a 'maintenance' issue (didn't think you needed a certificate to change a light bulb). It was still not replaced when i checked out which was well and truely 24 hours later.
Fun staff, clean dorm, and had an awesome time. The elevators suck.
Meeting new people, it was a great way to do this because I was alone. I have made so many friends who I still miss now. I was also able to change my room at around 8pm at short notice because I was not happy with some of the people in the room. That was brilliant. Manager was very nice. Most of the staff were rude, apart from Sam - she was really nice and kind and down to earth. Most people said she was the best and this is the truth. Every single other staff member treat people differently, some do not even smile at all, no joke. Some staff do not know anything, I ask them something and they will say 'ermm I dont know' without trying to find the answer. Some of the people who stayed at hostel were also not very nice, but most were nice. I was also in a room with a group of 5 girls for 2/3 nights which was horrible, because I was in a 6 dorm room, so basically I was by myself and they done what they want because they were all in a group together and didnt care that they kept me awake all night.
So close to City and China town No Tv in the room
very convenient to the city and transport lack of bedside table, small fridge and TV
Cetntral location, cheap, many facilities no
It was very upsetting on checking in that although I had given my credit card number I was told that it hadn't been passed on for payment. My friend travelling with me then had to produce her credit card for payment.Although I had a couple of phone conversations with staff this was never pointed out to me. The receptionist was quite rude giving us the impression that we were quite stupid.
clean toilet and shower room
The room was clean. The "reception" area stank of cannabis smoke. The girl demanded payment in cash (which I didn't have) before I had seen the room, then charged an extra $2 for payment by Visa, reading my card details to her "boss" over the phone. The street noise made it impossible to sleep in the room at night, even with earplugs. One window had no curtain and wouldn't shut properly. The hot water took ages to come through and the cold tap in one of the communal showers didn't work (ouch!), and there were no plugs in the handbasins. In the middle of the night I found teenagers getting dressed on the landing. This was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in (worse than the Petit Palace Italia in Madrid, and that's saying something).
Staff - The guy in Reception is very helpful. Cleanliness is poor
I didn't realise it was mixed dorms. The locker in my room was broken so I had nowhere to put any stuff that was safe.
Very helpful staff, single rooms are well isolated from each other, bathrooms are outside the rooms but they are regular bathrooms with a door that locks and they are very clean. If you take a single room, it seems you are in a low-budget hotel whereas it is a hostel. Some problems with the curtains, fridge and magnetic cards, but nothing the staff couldn't fix. In my first room I was near the air-conditionning system so the noise was unbearable but I have been able to change room. It's a minor detail but I have always struggled with the curtains.
Location & nobody bothered you. Toilets & Bathroom were disgusting. Women's Sanitary bins were overflowing.
1. Too noisy, everynight was noisy, someone was singing and waked me up at 3am in the morning. 2. bathroom is dirty, have some blood marks on the washing bowl.
Comfortable beds No elevator, smelly refridgerator
the room was clean and we could see the nice view from our room, which was great. I wanted you to put any sign on the fire-escape door. Because I was locked out and could not get back in.
Living right on Pitt street where the Chinatown and Central Railway station are just 2 streets away totally allowed us ultimate convenience to go anywhere we wanted. We had to climb the stairs to the 2nd level with our huge and heavy luggages.
It's in a nice area, and within walking distance from some nice places. Half of staff was helpful, the other half was not. The value for money is way off, and we even decided to book another hotel. A (partial) refund was not even considered.
