My parents and I recently stayed at the Hotel Montecello in Georgetown (Washington DC) and were very pleased with our experience. The rooms were spacious and the staff was friendly and helpful. It was also located in the heart of the Georgetown area, only steps from many shops and restaurants. It was also a very short walk down to the Washington Harbour which was lovely (nice view of the Kennedy Center). My only complaint would be that it was located a bit farther from the nearest Metro station than I would have liked. A 20 minute walk was fine in the mornings but in the evenings when we were returning from a full day of walking and sight-seeing, it seemed like a very long walk back to the hotel. Overall the expereience at the Hotel Montecello was wonderful and I would definitely recommend it to others and would stay there again myself.
With the weather changing into the spring season the room was uncomfortably hot. Airconditioning was not available. The evening street noise and sirens with the windows opens did not add to the expected charm and ambience of this hotel. The continental breakfast was extremely minimal. A considerable walk to the metro...not convenient for coming and going. A good location for Georgetown and full-day excursions. Would definitely choose a different hotel on my next trip.
Great location in historic Georgetown near great shops and restaurants. The rooms are 2 room suites, very comfortable and relaxing, tastefully decorated. My only complaint is that DC was having unseasonably warm weather the first day of the trip, the room was very stuffy. When I complained they said they don't turn the air on until the second week of April! It should be based on need, not an arbitrary date. I would definately return to this hotel again but I would inquire about the status of the air conditioning before booking.
I booked 1-bedroom suite for family of 4. It turned out that there was only one king-size bed in the bedroom and pull-out sofa in the living room. I was expecting 2 beds in the bedroom or this hotel shouldn't be available for booking for 4 people. Breakfast is very minimal and there is no breakfast room! Get ready to pay $30/day for parking. Great location!!
large elegant rooms. Fluffy white terry robes. Room had a bar area with small fridge, coffeepot and microwave. Nice marbled bath and large separate dressing area. Comfy beds. Lots of nice toiletries. Attentive staff accomodating to questions and requests. Great location for walking around Georgetown. We would return!
This hotel is so comfortable - big rooms, great location, friendly staff. Continental breakfast rolls not too fresh but lots of choices nearby for breakfast so not a problem. Free internet terminal is also a plus. Rooms have refrigerator, coffee maker and small sink. Very nice for 4 day stay.
I booked this room because of its location and close proximity to Washington Harbor. The staff couldn't have possibly been any more friendlier or helpfull. The hotel is one block from M street and all the shops. Two short blocks slightly downhill is the harbor with fabulous waterfront dining. About half a block away is the C&O canal where you can ride the boat pulled by horses. On M street you can take the buses into DC for all the sights. We will definitely return to this hotel!
The Monticello was in a great location, near M and Wisconsin Streets, plenty of restaurants and shopping... I felt safe even though I was traveling alone. I was pleased with the friendly and professional staff, as well as the roomy suite. It's a great value.
The hotel is unprofessionally run. The staff is rude. Few amenities for the price. No high-speed internet as advertised. \n \nThe valet damaged our car when attempting to pull it up from their very small garage. The front passenger side was gouged causing $* of body repair. My wife and I communicated with the head manager who refused to admit fault and their very amateurish insurance carrier was uncooperative. We are now stuck with a $* repair bill. \n \nThe bottom line, you may save money on the room, but you may also have your car mangled. Don't stay in this hotel.
Great location near the waterfront and the canal, spacious rooms thoughtfully decorated with very comfortable beds and quality extras. Very nice continental breakfast, although it's realy designed as a breakfast bar (no seating area, so we carried it back to our room, which was a very pleasant suite nicely set up for multiple use). Helpful, pleasant staff, and very well maintained rooms and common areas. It was a little bit of a walk to the Metro (about a mile), but on very comfortable and pedestrian-friendly streets (we had a lot of company on our walks). The hotel is in a lively area, so expect a little noise in the evenings (and often into the early morning hours). Great selection of restaurants and shops in easy walking distance. We were pleasantly surprised--travelling with a teenager, it was nice to have a separate room in the suite with its own tv to give her some ''alone'' time while we relaxed in the master bedroom.
The hotel's location was fantastic. Located very near shops, various restaurants, and only about a 12 minute walk from the Metro.
Stayed at the Hotel Monticello on weekend of June 12/13. Was very favorably impressed. Small lobby, no bar for after hours but that didn't matter because M street is filled with such establishments. Front desk personnel were affable and helpful. Great location. Fifty yards from M street and half a block from everything happening on the Potomac: restaurants, bars, boat rides, etc. Room which were actually suites were beautiful! Large sitting room with two chair and sofa and tv. Bedroom had nice queen and again tv. Four windows in our room was light and breezy. Would not hesitate to stay in this hotel again and would even encourage friends of mine to do same.
Nice bed and bathroom area. Staff was nice! The window treatments did not cover entire window. The rooms are paper thin meaning the outside of the room is able to be heard and will wake you up. It was so bad that you could hear low voice conversations as well.
Excellent location, friendly staff, didn't mind the small room. Lots of early morning noise outside the windows and also from the floor above.
Our room was clean. Room extremely small. Limited closet and bathroom space.
The bed was great. I was surprised to not have to pay for valet parking aside from the gratuity. The location is great but the rooms are noisy. All night I heard the TV and bathroom in the next room. I could also hear people walking and talking in the hallway. I know it is an old hotel but these are not things I would expect given the price. Also the check-in time is to late in the day. The service in the Grill was horrible. They seemed completely overwhelmed with the number of tables being serve. I actually had to go looking for our waitress to get my tab. Again, not what I would have expected. Bottom line - over priced and not recommended.
We enjoy the location, shops near by, the sight around, people were very friendly, too much to do in such a short time. Well, we tought the parking was included in our bill, but apparently it wasn't. It would be nice if you let us know beforehand.
It is a well situated hotel with a very good restaurant
I arrived late in the evening and they gave me the most incredible, huge, presidential-style suite, with 5 rooms - maybe 1500 sq feet? I could not believe it. Probably sold out all the other cheaper rooms, but it was definitely the best room I've ever had. Unfortunately I only stayed for less than 12 hours, so didn't get to use it as much as I would have liked. Another thing I appreciated was that I got sick and couldn't make my first night reservation and had to cancel within the allotted 24 hr timeframe. But the Ritz Carlton did not charge me for that first night. They waived it. That was very helpful. Their service is 5 star. The only downside to this hotel is that I do not believe it is handicapped friendly. You cannot get from the lobby area to your room without going down stairs. Of course there are porters to carry your luggage, but I wonder if they have some way for people in wheelchairs to get to their rooms?
very comfortable room, very responsive staff, centrally located, quiet.
location small bathroom
Room was clean, comfortable and private, water pressure in bathtub was good. Cafeteria in first floor was a plus. No refrigerator in room, very small closet, and yes you can hear nosises at times depending on how loud your neighbors are. No free WIFi in rooms? Only in lobby...that is soo 2008.
The location was great! It was quiet and the room was a great size. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The best was the cost of the room which we got a good deal booking on line ahead of time for our weekend trip. It was a little hard to find. There were no visible signs that the hotel was there.
Staff accommodated a change room request and were apologetic with the wait time associated. Have stayed here before, would again, and recommend for a decently priced Georgetown hotel. Very close to shopping and restaurants. I received an email to check in using Kayak. In doing this I requested a quiet room above all other features but received a room right above the lobby where the cars drive in. The hotel changed my room but I did have to wait for a new room for at least 45 minutes. I'm not sure if this was the hotel's or Kayak's fault.
Great location. Helpful staff.
We arrived at 8AM...check in is 3PM...obviously the hotel is in change over mode, trying to check customers out and cleaning rooms...the place was very busy (sold out the night before) with about 50 people in the lobby checking out and having breakfast...we were staying there for the 1st time as my son is starting college there soon...we were also looking for a place to return to every time we come to visit. Tina the hotel manager noticed us off to the side and came over to greet us. She returned after 5 minutes and told us to go to the front desk she has a room for us to check into right now!! Tina I was very impressed...you gave us the ability to check in, freshen up and carry on with our plans. the entire staff was very friendly and helpful, hotel was nice and clean, good location, and great breakfast...AND now we know where we will be staying for the next 4 years! See you in October for our next visit. nothing
Location is convenient, close to everything in the nice area Huge suites with comfortable beds and robes provided. Kitchen seems to have everything you need. Higher floor rooms are quiet of you don't open windows Carpet seems dirty, even though not that old. We found a clothing pin on the floor on the second day of stay - do they even vacuum? Air conditioner is very loud, we turned it off right the way. Thankfully the weather wasn't hot so it was ok for us. Safe was broken when we came in. They tried to fix it, didn't have parts. Safe stayed broken for four days- no calls or explanation. When I mentioned that I am not comfortable with open safe, I was told that I am accusing their housekeeping of stealing and they will call police. Nothing ever went missing and I never claimed anything- what were they talking about? The worst came at the end of our stay. My child needs a medication that requires refrigeration. This was one of the main reasons we choose a suite with kitchen for our stay. On the last day our plane was leaving long after the checkout time so asked Mr. Erick at the front desk to possibly put ice packs in the refrigerator for a day. First, he said that they are fully booked so he doesn't have a refrigerator available. When I explained that I am in a bind and no idea what to do, all of a sudden he had a room available. With one caveat- he wanted $125 for a few hours that we would keep ice packs there. He explained to me that this is business and he doesn't care about sick child and my medication. This incident completely ruined our experience - hotel lost customer and gained a negative review in social media.
Closeness to Georgetown U and sights Sofa bed was very uncomfortable and rooms could use updating.
The suites are near a bus line and a straight shot to the monuments via Pennsylvania Ave. Located amidst a very pleasant and walkable neighborhood there are tons of shops and a canal running next to it. Very reasonable parking. Lack of room service...not too much a bother in the area...but would be a boon.
good location, nice facilities, extra sitting room and kitchen is nice. Little nosey, we can hear guests talking at night.
Everyone who worked there was so helpful and kind. The included breakfast had a ton of options, and there was something for everyone. The room was HUGE, and it had all the amenities (and more) that anyone would need. The place was spotless, and the location was great! I loved my stay here!
Large amount of space, with separate bedroom, kitchen and sitting area. Free breakfast was a nice touch, though a bit limited in selection. Location is fantastic, with entrance less than a block off of M Street which is the main shopping / dining street in Georgetown. Staff was very nice, and provided great service with any requests. Interior is need of updates. Kitchen appliances in almond yellow 70's style. A bit of mold noted in caulking in shower / bath corners, broken light cover above sink mirror. Experienced a backed up toilet and bathroom fan cover falling off during the stay. Room doors slam exremely loudly, so don't plan on sleeping in past 8am when other guests are leaving their rooms for the day / check-out. However, if you get a good price for a room here, these are not showstoppers and I would keep this an an option for future visits, depending on price.
Great location and continental breakfast included.
The room was large and had a kitchenette First floor room with huge bay window directly looking into the hotel check in turn about. As soon as we opened the door to our room we phoned the front desk we had just walked 100 feet from in hopes of getting something more private. It was our anniversary weekend. Nope, no way we can get a different room. Apparently from the time it took us to walk to out room everyone checked in to sold out rooms. BS. Lighting was dim and we had to keep our window curtains closed so as not to be on exhibit for the arriving and departing guests. the tv reception was fuzzy and off at 90° from the bed. Also safety was a big concern of mine because of no protection or barrier from cars. They are in and out all day and night. With one small mistake they would be in our bed. I would not keep my dogs in this room. I'm sure even one floor up would have been better. We had a nice time outside our overpriced and unsympathetic room. Cool neighborhood. Shopping and food good. Night life ok.
comfy bed outside traffic was a little noisy
I enjoyed the fact that it was in a great neighborhood, great for sightseeing and shopping. Also the separate bedroom with living room with pullout queen, full kitchen and dining room was great for our family. It is older, dated. Tiny bathroom.
Great value for price. The hotel is located in a great area right at the beginning of Georgetown. It is convenient and walking distance to everything (including national mall if you walk a half hour). Being close to waterfront was also great feature. The room was spacious and had full kitchen which was great. The room was very comfortable as well. Decor seemed a little dated, especially in the kitchen, but that really doesn't bother me that much. Room seemed very clean but on my last day I found A HUGE WATERBUG in the closet. That totally ruined it.
Location. Dated. Not particularly clean.
Size and staff both exceeded my expectations.
very spacious, very comfortable rooms breakfast area some crowded in the mornings as it is small for the hotel size ... slightly inconvenient street position for lobby
very nice staff!
Staff are five star!!! Bldg is old and dates. Clean, but very dated
size and comfort of the room--was excellent as well as a simply great location.Your remodel work is very good!
Cozy ambiance. Comfortable bed. Pleasant staff. "Vintage" suite accommodations in kitchen/ living area Trash was not taken out under kitchen sink. Facilities: think Jetsons meets retirement home
Staff was very responsive. There is nothing I found that I did not like.
