The Ultimate Feng Shui Travel Guide According To Your Chinese Horoscope

2018 is the Chinese Year of the Dog. While the Lunar New Year celebration starts on 15 February, according to Chinese Feng Shui theory, your good luck for the year starts from Lichun (beginning of spring in the traditional East Asian calendar), which this year, falls on 4th February.

So where should you aim to travel this year for some good luck? You may have already seen the first instalment of our Feng Shui guide, in which we revealed the compass directions and associated cities that hold good fortune this year. Now we’re back to give you some more tips, thanks to Hong Kong Feng Shui master Tong Wong, who gave us a few tips based on Flying Star Feng Shui.

Where to Travel for Good Luck according to your Chinese Zodiac

Do you know your sign? Are you a dog, or perhaps a rat? While Western zodiacs are calculated based on the month that you’re born, Chinese zodiacs are calculated based on the year, also on a cycle of twelve (if you were born late-January to mid-February, double-check which year your birthday lies with a Lunar Calendar converter).

Here are some fun and handy travelling tips for each Chinese zodiac sign!

Dog (2018, 2006, 1994, 1982, 1970, 1958):

Welcome to your year! Boost your luck further by travelling to the Northwest – perhaps you’ll find a bone or two in cities like

Lhasa (LXA), Kathmandu, Moscow, St Petersburg (LED), Stockholm, Oslo, or Reykjavik.

Woofs will really echo around the halls of Saint Petersburg’s stately Peterhof palace.

Rat (2008, 1996, 1984, 1972, 1960, 1948):

Winter is coming! Rats should avoid travelling North this year. Destinations that you may want to save for next year include Beijing, Mongolia and the Russian Far East. Instead, aim your compass Southwest or Northeast to one of these destinations for extraordinary experiences in 2018:

Southwest: Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Phuket, Siem Reap, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Penang, Colombo, MaléCape Town

Northeast: Taipei, Ho Chi Minh City, Kaohsiung, TaichungFukuoka, Nagoya, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, or Busan

Singapore’s futuristic Super Trees would be a great place for a rat to make its way in 2018.

Ox (2009, 1997, 1985, 1973, 1961, 1949):

This year, the mighty Ox will plow ahead and travel wherever it wants to! If you want an extra boost to your luck, travel somewhere to the Northeast, such as these hot spots:

Taipei, Ho Chi Minh City, Kaohsiung, TaichungFukuoka, Nagoya, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, SapporoBusan, Jeju, or Okinawa

Fukuoka seems like a relaxing place for an ox to rest in 2018

Tiger (2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, 1950):

To make the most of 2018, tigers should head either Southwest or Northeast. Luckily this leaves them plenty of juicy destinations to sink their teeth into:

Southwest: Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Phuket, Siem Reap, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Penang, Colombo, Malé, Cape Town, Hainan

Northeast: Taipei, Ho Chi Minh City, Kaohsiung, TaichungFukuoka, Nagoya, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, SapporoBusan, Jeju, or Okinawa

Not far from Da Nang, Hoi An’s ornate houses will please tigers of all stripes.

Rabbit (2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951):

The year of the Dog is a year of good luck for you! Apparently there are many carrots in your future, particularly in the Southwest and Northwest. Why not hop over to:

Southwest: Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Phuket, Siem Reap, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Penang, Colombo, Malé, Cape Town, Hainan

Northwest: Lhasa (LXA), Kathmandu, Moscow, St Petersburg (LED), Stockholm, Oslo, or Reykjavik.

Stockholm’s harbour is a hoppin’ good time for rabbits

One last tip for the bunnies – if you’re a rabbit-entrepreneur or are single and looking for some luck in love, go somewhere Southeast. A few ideas:

Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, AucklandGuam, Saipan, or Fiji

Dragon (2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952):

Evil hobbitses are teeming in the Northwest, so avoid destinations such as Tibet, Russia, and Scandinavia lest they steal your treasure. Instead, travel Southeast to find better fortune in lovely Australia and New Zealand (a well known favourite hangout of dragons!) Think places like Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Auckland, and Adelaide.

Snake (2013, 2001, 1989, 1977, 1965, 1953):

Northeast: Taipei, Ho Chi Minh City, Kaohsiung, TaichungFukuoka, Nagoya, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, SapporoBusan, Jeju, or Okinawa

Horse (2014, 2002, 1990, 1978, 1966, 1954):

Lucky directions for you this year are Northwest or Northeast. Horses who travel with friends born in the year of the Tiger will enjoy extra hay this year. So, find a stripy friend and gallop along to these hotspots for a prosperous year!

Northwest: Istanbul, St Petersburg (LED), Prague, Berlin, Manchester, Dublin, Reykjavik

Goat (2015, 2003, 1991, 1979, 1967, 1955):

Those born in the year of the Goat are kind, calm and less assertive. But this is your year to take a chance, as there are no baa-a-a-ad directions for goats to travel this year. Go wherever your heart takes you in 2018! For an extra lucky trip, your best chances lie Northeast and South.

Northeast Destinations: Taipei, Ho Chi Minh City, Kaohsiung, TaichungFukuoka, Nagoya, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, SapporoBusan, Jeju, or Okinawa

The snows of Sapporo aren’t too cold for a hardy goat this year.

Monkey (2016, 2004, 1992, 1980, 1968, 1956):

Plenty of bananas lie in the Southwest this year. Time to plan your travel to destinations like:

Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, AucklandGuam, Saipan, or Fiji

South is also a great direction for monkeys to swing to if you want to boost fame or wealth. Possible destinations include:

Sabah, Kuching, Brunei, BaliPerth

The ricefields of Bali are a good place to get into some monkey business in 2018

Rooster (2017, 2005, 1993, 1981, 1969, 1957):

Cocks normally crow when the sun rises in the East, but if you are an adventurous Rooster, 2018 is the year to try something different when you travel. This year, travel to the West would be your best option, so why not take advantage with a special trip to Europe?

Dublin, London, Rome, Paris, Vienna, Zurich, or Prague would all be good options for a trip to remember!

Cesky Krumlow, Czech Republic. Europe is what the roosters are crowing about this year.

Pig (2019, 2007, 1995, 1983, 1971, 1959):

Too lazy to wallow your way around the world? Then make 2018 a year of short-haul travel. Favourable directions for you this year are Southeast, South and Southwest. Try planning a trip to:

Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Phuket, Siem Reap, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, PenangSabah
